ALEKS Math Summer Program Information
Once again, the Math Department is pleased to extend a helping hand to our students over the summer in order to improve and strengthen our students’ math skills. We have enrolled in an online program (Aleks – www.aleks.com) that will cover 1st grade math skills through 12th grade math skills at various levels of ability; the program is for low, average and advanced-level students. The cost is $35 for a 3-month subscription – roughly the cost of a paperback workbook through many different book stores. The program advances math skills for students at various levels (elementary math to Calculus), and we estimate three hours per week as a minimum commitment for the program to be effective. The Aleks program is simple to manage and effective; Aleks offers excellent support and will be overseen by Saint Agnes teachers online as student progress can be easily tracked.

More about the play: In this show for all ages. Matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi heads into town with wealthy merchant Horace Vandergelder to help him find a new wife. His clerks and niece seize the opportunity to pursue their own adventures behind his back, leading to unexpected encounters, mistaken identities, and the reminder that even the biggest city is smaller than you might think. You’ll be swept away to 1880s New York with these delightful characters on a journey of self discovery, and might even learn something about yourself amidst all the laughs! Participants read at their own pace, then gather for a party at the beginning of the school year in August to discuss and enjoy treats. The date is TBD. There are two books—feel free to read one or both. The first, in honor of her 250th birthday this year, is Jane Austen’s classic, Pride and Prejudice. The second is Michael Shaara’s Civil War novel, Killer Angels, celebrating its 50th anniversary of winning a Pulitzer Prize.
Anyone interested in meeting during the summer to discuss Pride and Prejudice in more regularly, email Ms. Perrin (tperrin@saintagnesschool.org). For questions about the Book Party Celebration, email Dr. Pawl (fpawl@saintagnesschool.org).
