10:30 AM Rite II Holy Eucharist Service. This service will also be live streamed.

Service bulletins can be found on our website here. The 10:30 AM service will be live streamed through our CEC Facebook Page and our CEC Youtube Page.
SUNDAY ADULT FORUM
THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS
Beginning on Sunday, July 17, the Sunday morning Adult Forum / Sunday School will study C.S. Lewis' book, "The Screwtape Letters". "The Screwtape Letters" is a fictional satire that addresses various theological issues, the most prominent one is temptation. The letters are short enough that we'll read them together, but you may also acquire your own book. No "homework"/prior reading will be necessary. All are welcome to come and discuss the book as your summer schedule allows.

Adult Forum classes are held on Sundays at 9:00 a.m., in the Library.
EVENT UPDATES
On Saturday, July 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Red Cross will be on campus conducting a Blood Drive. To sign up to donate, go to Redcross.org, click on Give Blood, then Find a Blood Drive.

Enter the CEC zip code, 78613, and it will take you to a page where Christ Episcopal Church is listed. Click on the church name, and it will take you to available appointments.
Watermelon and Water Balloons - July 10

Its HOT out!!! So we need some cool refreshment! Join us on Sunday, July 10th from 11:30 am til 1 pm for a refreshing church social event: Watermelon and Water Balloons, hosted by the Roots Youth Group and the Wellness Commission. We encourage everyone to wear very casual clothes to the 10:30 am church service on 7/10/22, so you can fully participate in some old-fashioned fun as we try to beat the Texas heat with a water balloon fight and cool watermelon. We hope that you bring your inner child and join us! For more information, contact Sherrie Hill or Linda Dozier.
TUTORING AVAILABLE
One of our parishioners, Pat White, is offering tutoring to students or adults who want to improve their writing abilities. Pat was a full-time English tutor at Albuquerque's community college and also helped a teacher at Rouse High this past school year. If you are interested or would like more information, please email Pat White at patwhite105@yahoo.com.
VESTRY UPDATES
VESTRY BRIEF
June 2022

Air Conditioner Maintenance to Prepare for Summer
In June, we had the eight air conditioner units on our campus serviced. Several of the units need some repairs, including a freon line repair and new freon for one of the units. The total cost of service and repairs was approximately $2,000. Unfortunately, due to the work done on the unit in the Stone Building, a drain line got clogged, and water leaked out into the Library. The clog has now been removed. Thanks to Craig Strauss and Jerry Halstead for getting the fans needed to dry out the carpet. Thanks to Josiah MacFoy for repairing the damaged baseboards.

Sanctuary Refurbishment
The Sanctuary Refurbishment Group applied for and received a grant for updates to the Sanctuary! With this grant, the team plans to have the inside of the Sanctuary repainted. A contractor will be hired to do the painting in the Sanctuary. The firm has a colorist on staff who will help with the selection of the paint color. One of the goals is to select a color that will work well for the live streaming of the church services. The grant money will also be used to have some pressure washing done on the outside of the building, as well as a few other small projects. The grant money does not cover the updates to the bathrooms in the Narthex. All bathroom updates will need to be paid for by the church and carried out by church members. If you would like to help with the bathroom updates, please get in touch with Father Pelkey.

Vestry Opening
The move of the Schulz family to South Carolina touched most of us in some way, including the Vestry. Since Eric Schulz was a Vestry member, we now have an opening on Vestry. If you are interested in becoming part of the Vestry or know of a great candidate, please submit your name (or someone else’s) to Father Pelkey. We hope to be able to fill this vacancy within the next few weeks.

Rock Academy
Rock Academy will not be meeting on campus in June and July. However, they will return in August. Rock will continue to hold its classes on campus on Tuesdays in the Family Life Center and Library (with continued accommodations for the Book Club’s use of the Library) and on Thursdays in the Family Life Center (only).

Upcoming Technology Equipment Move
In July, the Technology Team will be moving most of their equipment upstairs into the Cry Room. The move will remove some of the congestion at the back of the church and allow the team to speak to each other as needed during the live streaming of the 10:30 am church service. At this time, the computer and soundboard will remain in the Sanctuary. The Cry Room will still be available for use!

Travis County November Elections
In November of 2022, CEC will again be a voting location for Travis County residents. We are planning to have the voting machines set up in the Library. Hopefully, we will also be able to return to offering cookies to residents waiting in line on voting day. Please let Father Pelkey know if you feel led to show the community hospitality by serving cookies!

VESTRY VOICE:
Vestry Nominations

We have an opening on the Vestry that needs to be filled. Eric Schultz was elected to the Vestry at the beginning of 2022. At the end of May, Eric accepted a new job which required he and his family relocate to the east coast. We are now accepting nominations from the congregation to fill Eric’s position on the Vestry. If you know someone you feel would be a good person to serve on the Vestry, you can submit their name by email to either Fr. Pelkey at rector@cectx.org or to our Sr. Warden, Craig Strauss at craig.strauss@gmail.com. We will, of course, discuss the nomination and Vestry responsibilities with all nominees and if they do not feel they can serve on the Vestry they may decline the nomination. If you would like to serve on the Vestry, you can nominate yourself. Nominations will be accepted through July 15th.

The Canon of the Diocese of Texas states that when a vacancy on the Vestry occurs that the Vestry shall select the person to fill the vacancy until the next annual election. Therefore, in the July 20 meeting of the CEC Vestry, an individual who was nominated from the congregation will be elected to serve on the Vestry as a voting member from August 2022 until the next Annual Meeting (January of 2023). In the Annual Meeting the congregation will then vote to determine if that person or some other person should fill the remaining 2 years of Eric Schultz’s term.

The Vestry is the governing body for our Parish. The Vestry
  • Establishes church policies and procedures,
  • Has fiduciary responsibility for the Parish,
  • Is responsible for setting Parish goals and implementing them,
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the church facilities and grounds are properly maintained,
  • Approves all contracts that the parish enters into,
  • And of course, other duties as required to support the Parish.

Serving on the Vestry is a commitment, but it is also a very rewarding experience. You will become much more connected to CEC and the congregation. You will help CEC by supporting the congregation and even the surrounding community. If you haven’t yet considered serving on the Vestry, please consider doing so by submitting your name. Speak with a current Vestry member to find out what serving on the Vestry involves. Serving on the Vestry is one way to truly support Christ Episcopal Church and its missions.
