Security Update

Thank you all for your support last week as we made a couple adjustments to strengthen our already enhanced security protocols—so many of you expressed your gratitude for our handling of the hours and days after the Annunciation shooting during Mass. During Mr. Kiehl’s absences this year, Mr. Rodrigo Flores, a current Aggie parent, will be present each morning to manage traffic and the crosswalk by Door 3 from 7:15 to 7:55 AM and then secure access to our parking lot and building for the remainder of the morning on school days until Mr. Kiehl returns. We are grateful to Mr. Flores for filling in during Mr. Kiehl’s temporary absence.

Finally, we are working to secure additional police/security presence for this week’s All-School Mass on Friday morning at 8:45 AM. You may have noticed a St. Paul Police Officer this morning at the Door 3 entrance, and we are hoping to see more police presence during the school day this week.

Please continue to pray for the safety and well-being of our children, faculty, and staff members!

Parents' Rosary for the School

Please join Aggie parents to pray a Rosary together for our school, our children and our families. We will meet immediately after All-School Masses, in the pews in front of the Marian Altar -- that's on the left side, up front near the sanctuary. Please note: this is not on days when there are separate Masses for the lower and upper schools.

Parents, meet at the Marian Altar immediately following the All-School Mass this Friday, Sept. 5, to pray a Rosary together for the intentions of our school community.

Stewardship of Resources: Covering Our Textbooks!

In an effort to take better care our textbooks, we’re asking students in grades K-12 to cover their textbooks. This initiative includes larger, hard-bound textbooks in Math, Science, History, for example. Novels and other paperback materials do not need to be covered, unless directed by teachers. Covering a textbook is cheap (usually free) and easy! Here’s a 1 min. 36 sec. video: How to Cover a Textbook with a Paper Grocery Bag

This effort avoids damage to textbooks so they can last for years – it also helps avoid unnecessary extra fees due to students damaging textbook materials. Thank you for helping your student(s) be good stewards of our academic resources.

Special Announcement from our Saint Agnes School Drama Club:

Saint Agnes School has a long tradition of excellence in the performance arts and is well-known for its superb spring musicals, but this fall will mark a turning point in our opportunities for student actors at Saint Agnes School. Building upon the success of the One-Act Play festivals of the past two years, our Saint Agnes School Drama Club is thrilled to announce that we will be performing the first full-length fall play in many decades on the Saint Agnes stage!

Without further ado…the first full-length fall play in a generation is…the American classic Our Town by acclaimed playwright Thornton Wilder! Mr. Broszko, head of the Drama Club, will direct the production, which is scheduled to perform the weekend of November 7th- November 9th in the Helene Houle Auditorium. Online ticket sales will begin in early October.

Auditions: Students in grades 9-12 who are interested in acting in this production are invited to audition on Tuesday, September 2nd or Wednesday, September 3rd in the auditorium, with callbacks (if necessary) on Thursday, September 4th. Audition sign-ups and materials will be outside of Room 350 (Mr. Broszko’s room) the week of August 25th-29th. Students interested in participating in backstage crew will sign up at a later date.

What if I play a fall sport? No worries! The rehearsal schedule was created to accommodate students who are also playing a fall sport!

Volunteer: Parents interested in assisting with costuming, set-building, or volunteering with ticket sales should contact Mr. Broszko at sbroszko@saintagnesschool.org

Dessert Donations: In order to build up our budget for future drama club productions, we are once again asking for dessert donations to be sold at intermission for the performances. If you are interested in donating desserts for the performances, please email Mr. Broszko at sbroszko@saintagnesschool.org

Further Information about Our Town

  • Although all ages are welcome for this production, due to the depth of the content, it is recommended for ages 10+.
  • Our Town won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
  • It is one of the most-produced plays in schools and theatres nationwide.
  • Summary: The play takes place in the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire over the course of three acts, aptly titled “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Although an ensemble show with around 25 characters—and narrated by a mysterious, omniscient character known as the Stage Manager—the action primarily focuses on a young baseball player named George Gibbs and his budding relationship with his neighbor, Emily Webb. Over the course of a day in the life of these characters, Wilder invites the audience to consider how these characters, and this fictional small town, somehow function as microcosm of the entire human experience.
  • Don’t see a huge set or props? It’s intentional! Author Thornton Wilder, hearkening back to the more naturalistic forms of theatre of Shakespeare and the Greeks, intentionally wrote the play with minimal set, scenery and props in order to enhance the emotional impact of dialogue and the characters.
  • Themes: The overall message of Our Town is the importance of being present in every moment, and how so often our busy lives obscure the extraordinary, momentous gift of every ordinary day. If that was true for Wilder in 1938, how much more is it true today? Our world needs to hear the message of Our Town, and we are excited to see you on Main Street!

Volunteering at Saint Agnes

We are grateful for our generous parent volunteers, as the true cost of education at Saint Agnes exceeds tuition and relies on everyone’s support of their time and talents. Volunteer opportunities are now listed on our website, where you can fill out an interest form. Please note that volunteers working with youth must complete the Archdiocese Essential Three (E3) Safe Environment requirements. For questions, contact Mrs. Becca DeMarais at bdemarais@saintagnesschool.org or 651-925-8759.

Lower School Library Volunteers Needed

We are so grateful to have a Lower School Library, filled with great books for students. We want to open it up for students after school, so that they can check out books and read at their leisure. We need someone to help students check out books, however. If you are able and willing to help, even if only for one or two days each week, please email Mr. David Gockowski, Director of the Lower School.

Spirit Store Volunteers Needed

As our new school spirit store buildout nears its completion, please consider lending a hand to get it off to a running start this fall!

We need assistance with the following:

  • Opening, managing, and closing the store (typically after school; weekly hours TBD)
  • Inventory tracking, ordering, & organization
  • Special sales operations (homecoming, grandparent days, athletic events, etc.)

Helping out with our store will be a great way to serve with other Aggie parents and interact directly with our students, alumni, and community. Contact Mr. Neal Abbott, Marketing & Communications, to volunteer!

Kitchen Volunteers Needed

Please consider volunteering in our kitchen! The kitchen is a fun, energetic part of the school where you get to work with a great team AND meet the students in the school.

Please email Food Service Director, Mrs. Kelly DiPietro, to help out!

 Online Athletic Tickets

Saint Agnes as well as many of our opponents use GoFan as our online ticket Box Office. While Saint Agnes continues to provide both cash and online payment options, many other schools do not. Online Ticket Link: https://gofan.co/app/school/MN9808

See the Saint Agnes athletic calendar for all times, locations, and livestreams for this week's games.

Please contact Athletic Director Mr. Streitz with any questions.

Flowers for the Sisters' Chapel

We are very blessed to welcome back our Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist to their convent here at Saint Agnes. A way we can show our care and support for them is by providing flowers weekly for their chapel that is inside the school building on the second floor. It’s as easy as purchasing 4 bouquets of flowers, 2 bouquets of green fillers, dropping them off, and then the Sisters will arrange them in their vases and pray for you and your family’s intentions.

The sign up sheet is easily accessed at: www.bitly.com/chapelflowers.
