Pending Home Sales Elevated 0.9% in July, Marking Second Consecutive Monthly Increase |

- Pending home sales improved in July, up 0.9% from June.
- Month over month, contract signings increased in the South and West but decreased in the Northeast and Midwest.
- Pending home sales fell in all four U.S. regions compared to one year ago.
"The small gain in contract signings shows the potential for further increases in light of the fact that many people have lost out on multiple home buying offers," said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. "Jobs are being added and, thereby, enlarging the pool of prospective home buyers. However, rising mortgage rates and limited inventory have temporarily hindered the possibility of buying for many."

Parcell Resigns; Kasper Vows Urgent Change at NAR |
|
Utah broker, Kenny Parcell, resigned Monday as president of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) after an article in The New York Times, published online Saturday, detailed accusations of sexual harassment against him by NAR staff and members. NAR President-elect Tracy Kasper, who was set to take over as president in November, will begin her term immediately.
Kasper acknowledged the “concern, anger and disappointment” among NAR staff and members in a statement released late Monday: “Our commitment to our staff and our members is unwavering, and we will continue to enhance the way we foster a welcoming, safe and respectful workplace. It is important to all of us at NAR that we take this moment to learn and focus on building a culture of comradery where we can do the good work we are all so passionate about.” (Read Kasper’s full statement).
A new presidential advisory group will look at recommendations for ensuring a healthy relationship between staff and members. There will be a parallel effort at the staff level. “We are looking to make lasting and positive change and to do so as quickly as possible,” Kasper said.
