THIS WEEK'S POLL QUESTION

Would you use a business directory for local businesses if it was only available on your phone?

It’s the New Year and typically we’re all ready to celebrate and wipe the slate clean, you know start fresh, unencumbered with a renewed “can do” attitude. We can’t let this pandemic take this away from us also, can we?
There are some positives we’ve learned from this disrupter.
Businesses have shown incredible resiliency and creativity. Consumers, that’s you and me, have exhibited great resolve to forge on with our lives and with this has come a renewed understanding of the importance of helping each other through these uncertain times.
We’ve talked about this before. Supporting local businesses whenever possible goes a long way in helping build back our local economy. I get it and realize it’s not as easy as logging in and buying from the “great warehouse in the sky” and having your goods dropped at your front doorstep a day later but, it’s the right thing to do. It’s the right thing to do if we want to support our local businesses many of which are owned by your neighbor or employ your brother or sister and provide a living for many of us. It’s the right thing to do if we believe that having choices and shopping local means anything to you.
These businesses we support by shopping local are the canary in the cola mine, the backbone of our community. They are the risk taker’s who have a passion for something and want to share that passion with others. The dreamers who take the risk, hire staff, stock shelves, and work the long hours to help make their dream come thorough. Ask local business owners like Carol Rogers and James Stone of Stone & Glass, Louisa Magoon of The Grand Tea Room, Jose Monforte of Cocina del Charro, Chuck and Rich Aeling of Aelott Air Conditioning, Deanna Smith of Deanna’s Gluten Free, Joe Parrish of Sign Post Studio, just to name a few, what it means to them to have your support, your business. I believe they’ll tell you that without your support they would not exist. They couldn’t open their doors, hire staff, stock shelves, and pay taxes.
Ok, so our New Year’s resolution is: Buy local whenever possible. Sounds simple enough. Now if we just had a vetted resource of local businesses that could always be with us just like our cell phone.
Hmmmmmmmm………………
Cheers,
JR
