This week’s column is centered around Opportunity.
What is Opportunity? The definition we’ll use is:
Opportunity is an occasion or situation that makes it possible to do something that you want to do or have to do, or the possibility of doing something.
Escondido, we are ripe with opportunity. The Chamber believes that Escondido has the opportunity to seize the day and reinvent ourselves. Let’s galvanize our business community and set a course to meet the opportunities headfirst, to lean in and become what we want to be.
Let’s take stalk of what we have, embrace what is coming and realize the future we want.
We have a new Mayor who is not constrained by our history and doesn’t want to miss any opportunity to build on the foundation set by previous civic leaders. The time is now and the Chamber will take the reins and lead the pack.
Positives abound and everything we do can be another step forward if we unite with intent to build a better Escondido business community.
Think about the changes we know are coming. North County Mall one of the signature pieces of real estate in Escondido is invigorated by fresh ownership and key management in place.
Citracado Parkway connecting to the 15 freeway is currently in its final stages of completion which opens up the ERTC to flourish and provide a direct pathway to Palomar Hospital and the health services they provide.
Apple is moving forward on opening their new campus within 2 years at the southern tip of our region. With their expansion come new jobs and opportunities for our local businesses.
Palomar Heights will provide a new base of customers to our downtown.
Harmony Grove will reap the benefits of the improved access with the Citracado build out.
Infill housing projects are scattered all over our area. Senior housing projects are being completed as we write, and more are in the planning cycle.
The City is actively aligning internal processes to best meet the demands and do their part in this equation. And it is a process, we are living in California after all and part of the cost to compete for the riches in our great state comes with requirements to grow smarter and not let opportunities pass us by.
The rainmaker has earned their due and by the end of our rainy season the drought should be declared over. The record-setting snowpack will fill our reservoirs and replenish the Colorado River basin.
We are poised for growth and if we act now on the opportunities in front us Escondido can evolve into the business community we envision.
The Chamber is focused on creating more opportunities to be filled and building a better Escondido business community.
Get involved and be a part of the change we imagine.
You have an opportunity in front of you to be part of the solution and not the problem.
Join the Chamber.
Cheers, JR
