We’re all stunned, shocked, saddened and confused. How can we deal with the ever present and growing problem of keeping our children safe? The tragedy which occurred less than 24 hours ago in Texas leaves us heartbroken for the families who today wake up without their son, daughter, or wife/mother. The spotlight on them and their community shines brightly and we watch as the gaggle of cameras and microphones descend on Uvalde. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and the community.
One could reasonably ask what does a Chamber of Commerce have to do with any of this? As a leading community organization, we are rooted in the belief that we as a business community builder look beyond our core mission and contribute to the overall health of all our community. Our focus is business but the events of yesterday which have sadly become all too frequent, transcend us beyond our core mission. How can we as a community make a difference? How can we as a community connect to another community half-way across the country and lend support? How can we as a community show our support and possibly work together towards a solution?
We don’t have all the answers, but we are not going to stop asking them. Let’s all remember the lives lost and those forever changed yesterday, and all the days before. Together we can find answers and together we can create change. We are all part of a greater community.
Sincerely, JR
