In 13 days, we have the responsibility/opportunity to let our voice be heard by voting. It’s our chance to say yes or no on some very important issue we face and I am not just talking about the retail sales measure.
With district boundaries having been updated to better reflect population shifts new and incumbent candidates and their supporters are out in full force in an effort to win your support.
Many of us have already made our choices and voted by mail and now must endure the litany of TV ads, direct mail, random doorbell rings, and Robo calls. It’s almost over.
I do believe that we owe a collective thank you to all candidates who have chosen to run no matter the party affiliation. To run for office and give up so much of your life to serve others takes a special individual and has earned my respect. Ultimately, we all want to be “liked” and elected officials have to be able to deal with the fact that not everyone “likes” you, it may not be as simple as this but then again maybe it’s not quite as complicated as we think.
Popularity contest? Well not exactly but in this socially connected video-driven world trying to win an election without being visible where the voters are is taking a big chance.
Be informed, get involved, and vote. Your voice deserves to be heard.
A pat on the back to the Escondido Eats FB group as this program started during the pandemic to aid the beleaguered food industry here in Escondido. EE has grown to just short of 14,000 people with over 22,000 weekly engagements and was just notified that it won a 2022 Excellence in North County Economic Development Award!
And a shout-out goes to the City of Escondido’s Economic Development team for organizing and presenting the Ag-Tech Hackathon this past weekend. Friday’s kick-off was a great start to what was, by all accounts, a successful weekend.
Please mark your calendars now for our annual Community in Unity celebration Thursday evening December 8th! This annual event brings together local businesses, elected officials, and City leadership together with great food and drinks to kick off the Holidays! Make new friends, celebrate old ones, eat and be merry!
Cheers, JR
