Greetings!
It's been an exciting February at the IWFM, with busy market days, interesting opportunities to learn about gardening and keeping chickens in the city, and a well attended yoga class raising money for the Eat Well Initiative. We are delighted to continue the fun this week with our Lunch Box Challenge Demonstration.
The American Way of Eating
A new book tracks the eye-opening experiences of Tracie McMillan as she works at Walmart, Applebee's, and in farm fields, discovering the realities of food service jobs in America. Her account goes beyond the expected poor working and living conditions to consider a the bigger picture of all that underlies any attempt at mainstream food system change. Read more here.
"So far as I can tell, changing what's on our plates simply isn't feasible without changing far more," she writes. "Wages, health care, work hours and kitchen literacy are just as critical to changing our diets as the agriculture we practice or the places at which we shop."
Join us on Saturday starting at 10am on the 2nd floor for a demonstration of how you can make your weekday lunch better! We'll have guests demonstrating their own easy and fun packed lunches to inspire you and get some creative juices flowing. Market customers are encouraged to bring their own lunches to join in the fun.
Be well, Laura, Molly, and the IWFM Team
