Office Closed on Monday

The office will be closed on Monday, January 20th in honor of

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Grant, O God,

that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart,

that barriers which divide us may crumble,

suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease;

that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FELLOWSHIP

"Souper" Bowl Soup/Chili Sale

on Sunday, February 9th

Think February 9, and the first thing that comes to mind is the Super Bowl. But at St. John’s it will also be the annual Souper Bowl fundraiser. Malia Attaway is once again leading this project.

After the service on that Sunday, we will offer a variety of soups and chili for the amazing price (no increase since last year!) of one container for $8, two for $15, and three for $20. Each container feeds two.

You can help by making a soup or chili and buying some.

There will be a sign-up sheet on the Narthex counter starting January 19 where you can indicate what kind of soup or chili you will make. Containers will be available after the service on Sunday, February 2 (or in the office starting February 3 if you can’t be at church).

Plan to bring your cold soup or chili to church on February 9th in a cooler; there will be limited space in the refrigerator. Food safety is of the utmost importance.

ADMINISTRATION AND VESTRY

St. John's Annual Meeting

Our parish Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 26th following our liturgy (approximately 10:30).

Please plan on staying and attending our Annual Meeting. We need to have a quorum in order to conduct our parish business. A continental breakfast will be served.

The Annual Meeting Agenda will include:

  • The Spirit of St. John’s Award
  • 2024 Financial Summary and 2025 Parish Budget
  • Election of Vestry Members
  • Election of Delegates and Alternates for Diocesan Convention
  • Appointment of the Senior Warden
  • Congregational Conversation

The question remains for us as a parish: How will we continue to fulfill and make present the kingdom of God?

Or in other words, with regard to our parish family:

  • what do you long for?
  • what do you hope for?
  • what do you want to see happen?

I want to hear your answers.

Therefore, I invite you to come and see how our hopes and dreams and yearnings might be fulfilled.

I look forward to the coming year with much hope and excitement.

ACROSS THE CHURCH

A Time for Action:

Supporting Our Neighbors in Los Angeles

By: Bishop Susan Brown Snook

My heart is heavy with the news of the devastating fires sweeping across Los Angeles. The destruction is unimaginable, and my prayers are with every person affected. As a bishop, but also as a neighbor, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to respond with action. It is these moments that remind me of the fragility of our world but also the strength found in our community–acting on God’s love for one another.

I’ve been moved by the stories I’ve heard from the Diocese of Los Angeles. Their churches have opened their doors to evacuees, offering safe havens for those who have been forced to leave everything behind. Pastoral care teams are walking alongside families who are grieving the loss of homes and livelihoods. Diocesan leaders are working hand in hand with Episcopal Relief & Development to bring essential resources to where they are needed most. This is the church in action—a tangible expression of God’s love in the midst of heartbreak. Read More
