In celebration of our Centennial year,

St. John’s will again hear the sound of ringing bells this Sunday.

Thanks to a generous donation and memorial,

the carillon bells of St. John’s will ring again.

The bells will call us to worship on Sundays

and mark each hour weekdays (from 8:00am-5:00pm).

May their ringing be heard as a reminder that we are

the children of God.

As San Diego County has moved into the medium-risk category for COVID-19,

Reflection on John 16: 12-15

This Gospel begins with Jesus telling his disciples that there is much more for him to tell them. However, Jesus realizes that they are striving to absorb and understand what he had been saying. He understood that at this point, they did not have the capacity to absorb anything more.

However, Jesus reminds them that when the Spirit comes, the Spirit will guide them to all the truth. He tells them that the Spirit will speak to them about the things that will come in the future. Then Jesus not only foretells his departure, he says that in the future he will return but in a new and different way!

Just as Jesus reassured his disciples, Jesus also reassures us. Today he also is telling us, that he not only will come to us but he already is among us! Jesus comes to us in the breaking of the bread! And when we, his followers, are gathered together, Jesus is with us and among us!

Do we recognize Jesus with us? Do we experience his presence, his love, his grace?

Today may our minds and hearts be awake and alert to his coming! We don’t want to miss him! What a loss that would be!

FAITH FORMATION

Christian Initiation

Do you desire to make a commitment of faith in the Episcopal?

You are invited to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation or the rites of Reception or Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows

Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation into Christ’s Body, the church. Baptism creates a bond which indissoluble and unrepeatable.

Our church recognizes all baptism performed with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We do not repeat a baptism that was validly celebrated.

Those who are baptized are thereby admitted to Holy Communion. Baptized infants should receive Holy Communion regularly.

Confirmation, Reception, Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows

Confirmation is the renewal of baptismal vows for those baptized at an early age who desire to make their first adult affirmation of faith. It is a sacrament of matur adulthood.

Reception is a renewal of baptismal vows for those who have made a mature affirmation of faith in any other Christian church and who now wish to join the Episcopal Church.

Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows is a renewal of baptismal vows

for those who were baptized as adults without laying on of hands by a bishop,
for those who have made a mature affirmation of faith but have returned from a lapse of Christian practice,
for those concluding a period of personal or pastoral crisis, and
for those who are experiencing a new call from God to grow in faith or to begin a new ministry

New Diocesan Sacred Ground Circle

In the wake of recent gun violence due to racial division, we must open our minds and hearts to counter these acts of hate. Bishop Susan urges us to participate in a Sacred Ground race-dialogue series.

We have been invited by St. Bart's to join a new Sacred Ground dialogue circle on Wednesday's beginning June 15th from 3-5 pm via Zoom.

Sacred Ground is the Episcopal Church’s film & reading based series which creates space for difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue on race, racism & faith.

OUTREACH AND EVANGELIZATION

Latino/Hispanic Ministry

St. John’s has been invited to participate in a diocesan ministry reaching out to members of the Latino/Hispanic community.

La Misa in English is an opportunity to gather to celebrate Mass in English while celebrating their culture and heritage.

Outreach Ministry

Feel passionate about helping the homeless, but don’t want to hand out money on the streets? Here’s an idea!

Blessings in a Bag

St John’s will begin collecting and packing 1 gallon zip top bags with items that are helpful for our neighbors living outside. A few bags can be kept in your car to hand out when you come across a homeless person in need. We will also provide a prayer card from the church, so they know we care! Click here for a list of items you can donate to fill the bags.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

St. John's has four Lay Eucharistic Visitors who are commissioned to bring Holy Communion to anyone requesting a visit.

If you are not able to join us for our celebration of Holy Eucharist, we will bring Holy Communion to you. You may call the parish office (619-422-4141) and request communion to be brought to you by one of our Eucharistic Visitors.

The leaders of the Prayer Quilt Ministry would like to remind

Any information you provide will be stored carefully in order to protect the privacy of your contact's information.

Beware of Scam Emails & Phishing Attempts

If you receive a suspicious email from an address that seems to be Rev. Roger or another parishioner asking for a favor, it may be a phishing attempt. Scam emails mimic addresses we are familiar with and are very often full of grammatical errors.

Rev. Roger will never email you asking for funds or financial support by way of gift cards. If you receive an email that seems suspicious, do not open it or respond to it. Delete it immediately.

Phishing is a cyber attack that uses disguised email as a weapon. The goal is to trick the email recipient into believing that the message is something they want or need - a request from their bank, for instance, or a note from someone in their company - and to click a link or download an attachment.

Each ‘Snack’ has supplemental components to accompany the gospel story like family cookie recipes, Lego translations of the story, Minecraft walkthroughs based on the Gospel, and more.

Premiering each Thursday on the Diocesan YouTube Channel, these videos will be a great supplement to any mealtime conversation, a springboard for summer formation programming, and so much more.
