SCAM UPDATE: another email scam is making its way through the congregation (and other congregations in town... and other United Churches in Alberta and BC), pretending to be from the local minister.
If you receive a "fishy" looking email pretending to be from Rev Greg, indicating an urgent need, DO NOT REPLY to the email or follow its instructions!

The scripture for this Sunday is 1 Kings 19: 3-15 click here~.
We are pleased to welcome the congregation of Jasper United Church, who will be joining us online for worship this Sunday. They, too, have moved their worship services online, due to the hard work of Rev. Nancy Monteith and her husband, Glyn Lloyd - see https://www.jasperunitedchurch.com/video.html.

PLANS FOR OUTDOOR WORSHIP in SEPTEMBER
Our recent RCMUC survey had an 86% positive response to attending an outdoor worship service, so mark these dates in your calendar:
Sunday, September 13 & Sunday, September 27
We have booked the ball diamond at Millennium Park for
10 AM outdoor Worship service on both those Sundays!
As you can imagine, holding such an event while following the numerous public health & safety directives, will require MANY helping hands!! We are actively recruiting volunteers to assist in distributing face masks, making hand sanitizer available as worshippers arrive and leave, and helping folks keep their 2m distance from others (before, during and after the service).
If you can help, please contact

I f you have a prayer concern to be shared in our Tuesday "Morning Prayer" or our Mon-Wed-Fri Healing Pathway Prayer Circle (meeting next on August 7th), please email Val Goodrow at v.goodrow@me.com and Rev. Greg Wooley at minister@ralphconnor.ca.
We request that the person gives consent to have their name mentioned in prayer as privacy/confidentiality is of utmost importance. We also would appreciate knowing when the situation changes and we can release them from our prayers or update the prayer to a changing need.

FUNDING OUR MISSION
a Message from your Stewardship Committee
Ralph Connor Memorial United Church's Mission as a Church Community is:
• to nurture the spiritual exploration and growth of all our members and adherents;
• to be an intentionally inviting Christian community that seeks, welcomes and embraces new members;
• to reach out and become an agent for social justice in our neighborhood and in the global community.
A heartfelt thank you to RCMUC friends for your generosity during these challenging times. We continue to receive an outpouring of kindnesses and generosity, which helps us to pay our ongoing expenses and reach out to others in our community.
As always, donations may be made by letter mail, by eTransfer to office@ralphconnor.ca, or by the “donate now” button on the RCMUC website, or by Pre-Authorized Remittance (links for “Donate Now” and PAR are found at the bottom of this Newsletter).
Each week for the past 4 weeks we have highlighted one of the outreach ways that we "live out" this Mission that you so generously fund. Last week we highlighted the Living Into Right Relations. This week, the finale, we'll highlight the summary pie chart.

LIVING OUR OUTREACH MISSION
Using Resources to Support our Mission
An important part of Stewardship is ensuring that the money we receive is being used to support Ralph Connor’s Mission. One way to do this is to build a narrative account of expenses. A narrative account shows how money was used to support our activities.
Ralph Connor Mission Statement: How do our activities line up with our Mission
• to nurture the spiritual exploration and growth of all our members and adherents (Sunday service, Evensong, Bible Study, Children’s Church, Choir, Faith Leadership)
• to be an intentionally inviting Christian community that seeks, welcomes and embraces new members (Affirming Church, Interchurch relationships)
• to reach out and become an agent for social justice in our neighborhood and in the global community (Rights relations, Healing Pathway, Affirming Church, CYAN, Prayer Shawls & many others, Being there for those suffering for any reason)
Activity categories –
Examples of what activities are included in each category
- Worship – Sunday Service, Evensong, Choir
- Pastoral Care – Being there for those suffering for any reason
- Outreach – Rights relations, Healing Pathway, Affirming Church, CYAN, Prayer Shawls & many others
- Spiritual Growth/Education – Bible study, Children’s Church
- Larger Church/Ecumenical – Social justice, Faith Leadership & Inter-church Relationships
- Empower the congregation – Support the work of all committees
A Pie Chart that represents the year-end Narrative Account for 2019 is shown below.

An ongoing thank you to our "Care Contact" phoners and "Care Courier" errand/delivery team, for doing such wonderful outreach in keeping us connected to one another.
With the Alberta reopening strategy in phase 2 and the (occasionally) warmer weather, our Church community is getting “out and about” quite a bit more… and with that, these calls and emails from the Care Contacts will be less frequent. Thanks again Care Contact team! Stay in touch...next Care Contact team meeting will be Wednesday, September 2 @ 10 AM.

Many thanks to Robin Slater for offering "Robin's Web" as a feature in our Newsletter, as part of our efforts to be a more broadly inclusive Community of Faith.
ROBIN'S WEB
CONNECTING DIVERSITY
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We can sing alone but singing together, even if in a virtual choir, has an impact that goes far beyond each individual voice. We can pray alone but when we combine our petitions in the liturgy of familiar phrases we seem to reach into the heavens. Praying together virtually is another example of claiming community in this unsettling time. Our voices are more powerful when combined, even if it is a simulated closeness, and we collectively invoke the spirit. Last Pentecost, some Canadian Anglicans and Lutherans, marked the Day by speaking their faith in a plethora of tongues. More than 200 members from both churches, including the Indigenous Anglican church, took part in recording “One Family in Mission”. 26 languages are represented in the film from places around Canada and the world with several of the submitted videos in Indigenous dialects. National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop Mark MacDonald said part of the Lord’s Prayer in Ojibway: Apegish bi-dagwishinomaguk kid ogimawin, “Thy kingdom come.” Lutheran National Bishop Susan Johnson commented “This diversity is part of our giftedness and our strength. It’s wonderful to come together and celebrate, especially in the middle of a pandemic—we need good news!” click here~
This rendition of Amazing Grace combines prayer and music, diversity of nations and oneness of soul. click here~
Senator Murray Sinclair said: “Reconciliation is not a spectator sport. You have to become involved. You have to be engaged. And people have not yet embraced that idea.” Giving Canadians the ‘right to roam’ might be a small step toward answering the calls of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We must walk together. click here~
Again, these days we may also walk in groups while alone. MacKay United Church’s virtual 'locative walk' is one of many ways to use communal, virtual walking to pray, meditate and fundraise. Stittsville United Church’s ‘Walk With Me’ program purchased 250 pedometers and initiated a walking program for people of all ages. Tracking and accumulating their steps, they accessed live talks about the pilgrimages and travels of biblical characters, each week was a different journey. The Calgary Interfaith Council hosts virtual walks in various places of worship with different Calgary religious leaders.
Some of us still cannot walk freely and in safety. Journeying into the future is uncertain and as people act out, violence is increasing around the world and in our communities. We all become stronger by forming alliances across “label-lines”. On August 9th a local 2SLGBTQ+ group called "Inqueering Minds" will meet at 4:00 in Centennial Park in Canmore. The focus in August will be to examine the recent spate of attacks and messages against queer folks in Calgary and Airdrie. React, reflect, and chat as you wish, this casual discussion group for queer folks in the Bow Valley meets about once a month and during their first get-together in Canmore we can hear how aggression has gained an insidious foothold in our communities. Please join Aurora Claire Borin and the rest of the group with openness: minds, hearts, and ears…allies welcome, we’re all in this together.
An actual WALK by the Anglican Church will offer you a reusable mask from the clothesline on their Bell Tower. Grateful thanks to Theresa from Greg’s great idea.
