Christmas Break: December 23 - January 5

Christmas break is upon us. Friday, December 23 is our final exam day. We hope you will enjoy this break with loved ones as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. School will resume on Monday, January 8, 2024.

A+ Program

St. Pius X is an A+ school. The A+ program provides an opportunity for students to earn FREE tuition to any two year community college in the state of Missouri. This includes free tuition to Jefferson College, St. Louis Community College, Mineral Area College and some technical schools. The initial process is to have an A+ agreement form signed by both the student and parent on file in Mr. Halter’s office. The A+ agreement form outlines the expectations and eligibility guidelines. This can be completed as early as freshman year!  Eligibility focuses on students meeting GPA, attendance, ACT math scores, and tutoring/mentoring hours. Most of our students meet the eligibility requirements but need the proper paperwork on file to earn the FREE tuition. Please have you or your student contact Mr. Halter if your student needs an agreement form or has any questions.

February ACT

The deadline to register for the February 10th ACT is Friday, January 5th. Students can register at act.org. If you or your student has any questions about registering for the ACT, please contact Mr. Halter.

Campus Ministry Corner

This is a busy time of the year in the Campus Ministry office! I wanted to follow up and say that we had two great retreats back to back, the Senior retreat and Sophomore retreat. Thank you for praying for these students and it was so great to see how they grew in relationship with each other during these retreats and how Christ is slowly opening the doors to their hearts. Our prayer is that this is a great place to start to remain Anchored in Christ during their lives.

The Annual Catholic Appeal Awards is for juniors who compete in an essay contest. They win a grant toward their senior year school tuition. The award ceremony, where they were honored, was held last week. We would like to congratulate Keira Romine who was awarded a $1000 grant, Madyson Bohnert who was awarded a $750 grant, and Ethan Cain who was awarded a $500 grant.

Service Hours - All students and parents will be notified of their current service hours. For more information about what the requirements are please see this form. Please contact me, Mrs. Julia Bergman, with any questions or concerns you may have about service hours. The Christmas break would be a great time to do service at home and in the community.

Advent - Week 1 & 2

Last week we lit the first candle on the Advent wreath, this candle is known as the Prophecy candle and Hope is associated with this first week. This refers to the prophets of the Old Testament who spoke of the hope in the coming messiah. As Isaiah says, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” They were waiting for a long time for the coming of Christ. We remember this time of waiting in Advent as we wait for the coming of Christ at Christmas.

The second week of Advent starts today as we light the Bethlehem candle. This week is associated with Peace. We think about the journey that Mary and Joseph took from Nazareth to Bethlehem and how the birth of Jesus would bring about Peace in the kingdom of the Old Testament after all of the destruction and division that had happened.
