Weekly News and Updates for the Week of September 23
Warriors of the Week
Each week through this year we will recognize several of our students through our "Warrior of the Week" award. Students receive this award for displaying effort that goes above-and-beyond our expectations - reflecting their drive to achieve personal and academic growth.

This week's Warriors of the Week are:

6th GRADE
Lauren E.
Lauren has hit the ground running since day one. All teachers have seen leadership characteristics and an amazing work ethic. Lauren has gone out of her way to help peers that were having difficulties. Lauren is a TRUE Warrior!

7th GRADE
Madison and Paige B.
Madison and Paige stepped outside their comfort zones to audition for the fall play.

8th GRADE
Kalyb S.
Kalyb has been a wonderful addition to the district and really shines. He is diligent about completing his work, asks questions, participates positively in the classroom, and is respectful of all. He shows a great ability to balance school work and making friends. We're excited to see him flourish here at Mayer.

Picture Day
Picture Day is on Monday! Students should bring their order forms with payment to school on Monday, and turn them in when they get their picture taken. If you'd like to order online, no need to complete the paper order form. You can order online at www.mylifetouch.com using the Picture Day ID: EVTTHCR48.
Warrior Weather Station
Through a partnership and grant with the FP Ed Foundation, we were able to purchase and install our own weather station at FHS! The system is mounted to the north side of the tower. According to Matt, the camera still needs to be adjusted. HUGE shoutout to Colleen Sliwinski for working on this. WOOO HOOO!!!

SUMMER READING PROJECT SHOWCASE
The ELA, OA, and social studies classes are working on a cross-curricular unit that incorporates the themes and ideas from the summer reading books and ties them into all of our students' family stories.  Each grade level will be working in their classes with artist Natalie Bauman to create their final products for these classes. Ms. Bauman is a digital artist with the Center for Arts Inspired Learning and we are grateful to use her services through a grant from the Fairview Park Education Foundation. We work to support our students and staff members through various events and activities throughout the year. You can join online at http://fppta.digitalpto.com/ and go to "Join the PTA" or you can print out a membership form and turn it into the Middle School or High School office stating PTA on the envelope. Thank you and we hope our students and staff have a great year!

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (FACE)

Hello Fairview Park Families! As parents, what do we ask our children everyday.....
"How was your day at school? or What did you learn in school today?"

Do we ever get the answers we want? No. Here is a list of questions that may work better to really see how your child's day was or how they feel about school:

TOP 10 BACK-TO-SCHOOL CONVERSATION STARTERS
  • What's one thing you learned today that you think I might not know?
  • Who are you most excited to see at school? Least excited? Why?
  • If you could change one thing about school, what would it be?
  • Think of a project or assignment you really enjoyed. Why did you enjoy it?
  • If you could make the rules at school, what would your top 3 rules be?
  • Tell me about what lunch (or recess) was like today.
  • What motivates you to work hard at school? What doesn't motivate you, and how can we change it?
  • If you could take a class in anything, what would it be?
  • Who is the best teacher you have this year (or have ever had)? What makes them a great teacher?
  • What makes you feel good about yourself when you're at school?
