Business Information
You might not realize it, but every time you take a yoga class at the local studio, buy a gift from the local artist down the street, or make a purchase from the local furniture store, you are shopping small and making a difference. For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. (Estimate from data on businesses with under 100 employees, as reported in Amex-commissioned 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study, amex.co/another-reason-shop-small.) When you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday, and throughout the year, it can add up to a big impact.

If you are in need of a service, particular item, or place to visit for a special occasion and are not sure where to turn, that is one of the reasons we are here; to be a resource for you to locate what you need, as locally as possible.

We encourage you to visit the locally-owned shops and restaurants and explore the locally-owned and operated service providers. You may find a new favorite among them. I know I have.
Does your business have hiring challenges?
Do you want to help build our workforce?
Do you have a passion for helping young people?

If your answer is yes, then join us on Tuesday, November 30!

The South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs and Apprenticeship Carolina will host an informational session on the Registered Apprenticeship program (RAPs) on Tuesday, November 30 at 2 p.m. via Zoom.

An apprenticeship is a time-tested method of employee development that combines supervised on-the-job learning and job-related education along with a scalable wage. Registered apprenticeship programs ensure that South Carolina's workforce has the skills needed to match today's in-demand jobs and jobs of the future.

Apprenticeships also provide a promising career pathway for participating apprentices who gain experience and the skills needed for the well-paying jobs that grow the state's economy.

The 4th annual H.U.G.S. Drive is officially underway. The drive collects donations of brand new (with tags) hats, underwear, gloves, and socks for children in the Newberry County School District. Sizes requested are from children's small up to 3XL.
This year we have partnered with the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce, The Rotary Club of Newberry, The Newberry Museum, the African American Alumni Chapter of Newberry College and the Muller Center at Newberry College to help make this year a success.

H.U.G.S. Drive donations may be dropped off at The Chamber of Commerce, the Muller Center - located in Keller Hall on the Newberry College campus, or at The Newberry Museum during their operating hours. Items are being collected from October 18th through December 3rd, 2021. Last year the Newberry County Young Professionals and their partners collected over 1,000 items to donate to the Newberry County School District. This year's goal is to collect at least 1,500 items. Join us in supporting our students!
