News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

This week we will gather to celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent. You may have noticed that the days are growing shorter and we are in the midst of the darkest time of year. Yet even in this time of growing darkness, we light our Advent candles and proclaim that the light is coming, and the dawn of Christ is not far off. As we move closer to Christmas let us continue to ask ourselves, how are we preparing? How are we making room in our lives for the light of Christ to enter in? How are we lighting the darkness so that others may know the love of Christ this season?

I am so grateful to Amy Koegel and all those who helped make our St. Nicholas Festival so wonderful last Sunday. It was a wonderful event and very well attended. Thank you to all who participated. I also wish to take this opportunity to thank the choir and choir director Beau Surratt for all your hard work. Our Lessons and Carols service was, as one parishioner put it, "astounding".   Thank you for this uplifting service, it was truly wonderful.

Blessings,
Fran+

Creating Sacred Space in Advent
A Labyrinth Walk

Saturday, December 14
9:30 a.m. to Noon
St. Mary's Great Hall

For this walk, we will gather on the second Saturday of December, pausing in our outward preparations to share time creating sacred space. No previous experience is needed.

Walking together on the labyrinth pattern creates a symbolic outward journey that tunes us in to our inward journey. The path for both our outward and inward journey toward the coming of Jesus, will be framed by story, music and sacred scripture.

You are invited. Come on December 14th to walk and to listen, and to share the gifts our loving God has prepared for us this Advent season.

Rest in Peace, Marion

Long time parishioner of St. Mary's, Marion Dillon, died this past Monday evening at Revere Court in Crystal Lake where she was living. Marion was 92 and is survived by her husband Harry Dillon of 71 years. Marion was the organist here at St. Mary's from 1946 -1987. She was a very active parishioner and her and Harry raised their family here at St. Mary's. In addition to her husband Harry, Marion is survived by her adult children, Lynn, Jan, Mike and Lori and their spouses. A service to celebrate Marion's life will be held on Saturday December 28 at 10:30 a.m. with a lunch following in the church hall. Interment in the churchyard will be held at a later date. Please keep the entire Dillon family in your prayers.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed  by the mercy of God rest in peace.
