News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

This week I am away at "CREDO", a clergy retreat sponsored by the Church Pension Group. I will be returning to the office on Tuesday, May 7 th . In the event that you have a pastoral emergency you may contact one of our Co-Wardens, Tracy Higgins or Steve Brooks, or Amy Noe in the office during business hours. They can contact the on call clergy if needed.

Please mark your calendar for Saturday May 18th , the date of our next Free Community Meal from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Plan to have dinner and meet up with friends old and new.

So many of us have experienced anger and sadness over the death of A.J. Freund, as it has truly shaken the entire Crystal Lake Community. Tomorrow , May 3 rd from 1:00-8:00 p.m., Davenport Funeral Home will have a public visitation to remember A.J. , open to anyone who wishes to attend. I am aware that a number of you know the Freund family and are very upset about this situation. Let us continue to pray for A.J. and for all children who are neglected and abused. Let us recommit ourselves all the more to being the face of Christ to a hurting world. Let us always show compassion, and respect toward all children whom we encounter.

May all of you continue to have a blessed Eastertide,
Fran+

Stuff the Duffel

In response to the AJ Freund tragedy, a local mom has started a Stuff-the-Duffel campaign to honor AJ's memory.   Items collected will be given to local and state foster care agencies. Quite often children arrive at their new homes without personal belongings or necessities. The campaign will run through May 21.   There is flyer on a table in the back of church with complete information,  including items requested, and drop-off sites throughout Crystal Lake and McHenry County.

There is also a public Facebook page , where this information can be accessed.

Crystal Lake Food Pantry

Volunteers are needed for the next St. Mary's date at the Food Pantry tomorrow , May 3 . Shifts times are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., or 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Contact Aimee Day if you can help.

Paper Please . . . Donations of paper goods are greatly needed at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. The pantry is not able to buy paper goods through the food bank , and clients are not able to use their SNAP benefits to purchase any paper goods such as toilet paper , Kleenex , paper towels , and napkins . Bring them to the church any time, and your Board members will get them over to the pantry. Paper goods are items that are lightweight, easy to carry and low cost that can be donated and will be appreciated by the clients. Thank you!!
