News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

Tonight is our second "Soup Supper & Study", which is focusing on the Life of Simon Peter. We will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner followed by our program. Please consider attending even if you cannot attend all five weeks. Everyone is welcome. Our evening ends with Compline at 8:30 p.m.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who continue to make our Free Community Meal a success each month. Last Saturday we served 74 meals and saw many new faces, and new families with children. We continue to have many volunteers from the community who enjoy being with us. Please mark your calendar for our next meal on Saturday April 20, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Come for great food and stay for the hospitality.

Blessings,
Fran +

Lenten Soup Supper & Study Series
Every Thursday, March 14-April 11 (6:30-8:15 p.m.)

Our annual Lenten Soup Supper & Study Series is underway!  Every Thursday during Lent we will meet for a light meal and study of the book/DVD, Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple.

We will begin the evening with a simple supper, followed by a short  DVD presentation, which will take us to the Holy Land and Rome, where we will follow Simon Peter's journey from simple fisherman to pillar of the church. We will follow-up with a group discussion.

If you are unable to attend every week that's ok! Please see the display on the bulletin board in the Great Hall for complete details, and sign up for the weeks you are able to attend. You may bring soup, salad, or bread if you wish.   Invite a friend to join you!!

Lenten Reflection Booklets

Copies of The Living Compass's Lenten booklet, Living Well Through Lent 2019, are now available in a basket on the Narthex table.   It is designed for use as an individual reflection, or for group study, providing a foundation for a deeper Lenten experience, in preparation for the true meaning of Easter.
There are also additional opportunities available at Living Compass online:

*   The booklet may be downloaded electronically
   (English and Spanish)
*   A small group facilitator's guide is available for those doing     group study
*   You may sign up to receive each day's readings via email
*   Join the closed Facebook group moderated by two of the         contributors

Easter Flowers

The Easter Flower Chart is now posted in the church lobby. If you would like to help underwrite the flowers used for the Altar of Repose on Maundy Thursday and the lilies for Easter Sunday, please sign your name, and the intention of your gift (in thanksgiving, honor, or memory of someone). The requested donation is $20, and checks may be made payable to St. Mary's (note "Easter Flowers" on the memo line).   You may also send a check to the parish office with the donation information.

Baptisms during the Easter Season

The Easter Season is an appropriate time to receive and celebrate the sacrament of Baptism. The sacrament of Baptism will be offered on the Second Sunday of Easter, April 28, and on The Feast of Pentecost, June 9.   If you need to be baptized or have a family member who needs the sacrament of Baptism, be it a baby, older youth or adult, please contact Rev. Fran and she will set up a time for baptism preparation.   The sacrament of Baptism is a symbol of God's lavish love offered freely to us. It is a sacrament of initiation into the church and into the body of Christ. The sacrament of Baptism makes real what is already true, that we are beloved children of God.
