News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

This Sunday, on the Second Sunday of Advent, you are invited to join us for a service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 10:00 a.m. This service is the most quintessential Anglican service we offer throughout the year.  It is based on the Advent Lessons and Carols service that began at Christ Church, Cambridge.  While being very traditional, in its time it was considered a new liturgical style of worship, a reimagining if you will of what liturgy for Christmas could look like. This year we will hear some familiar anthems as well as some new surprises. Beau Surratt, who is a very skilled liturgist, choir director, pianist and organist, will be directing this service. Beau and the Choir have been working very hard these past several weeks and I know this is a service not to be missed. This Sunday we will also bless and dedicate the grand piano in honor and memory of Sandy Molyneux, who served as our Choir Director and Organist for close to 25 years.

Following our 10:00 a.m. service you are invited to attend the St. Nicholas Festival, which begins at coffee hour and goes until 1:30 p.m. This is an event for all ages complete with crafts, homemade cookies, a special visitor and lunch. Please join us.

A special thank you to everyone who purchased gifts and gift cards for families in need through the Revive Gift Program. All of the packages were picked up this past Wednesday so they can be given to the families in time for Christmas. Thank you to Cate Becker and also to Lorraine Taylor for organizing the project and making sure it all got packed up and ready to go! The Revive Gift Program is an Episcopal Charities Program and it reaches hundreds of families in need throughout the Chicagoland area.

See you Sunday,
Fran+

Advent Devotional Available

Copies of Living Well Through Advent 2019 , are available on a Narthex table.  If you wish, please pick up a copy and take it home with you. The booklet is being provided by Living Compass, a faith-based wellness ministry founded by the Rev. Scott Stoner.

ReVive Christmas Basket Joy

THANK YOU for participating in the ReVive Center's Christmas Basket Program! St. Mary's provided Christmas gifts and grocery gift cards for 8 families made up of 28 individuals. Participation was wonderful; 25 parish families and individuals donated 15 boxes filled to the brim with gifts and 18 grocery gift cards. The gifts were very generous and the grocery gift cards will be very much appreciated.

Thank you to those who helped with my ReVive computer files, publicized the event, organized and counted gifts and loaded the ReVive truck. Thank you Amy, Fran, Lorraine, Marge and Peter.

Thank you St. Mary's!
Cate Becker, Coordinator 2019

Diaper and Wipe Drive

My name is Michael Mauger and I am doing my Eagle Project for Boy Scouts.  For my project I have chosen to run a diaper and wipe drive to benefit the Northern Illinois Diaper Bank.  Please consider bringing diapers and wipes to St. Mary's to help me meet my goal of 500 packages.   I chose this organization because they have helped my family with diapers, since my brother uses so many for his gastroparesis. There is a collection bin at church.
Thank you!

Creating Sacred Space in Advent
A Labyrinth Walk

Saturday, December 14
9:30 a.m. to Noon
St. Mary's Great Hall

For this walk, we will gather on the second Saturday of December, pausing in our outward preparations to share time creating sacred space. No previous experience is needed.

Walking together on the labyrinth pattern creates a symbolic outward journey that tunes us in to our inward journey. The path for both our outward and inward journey toward the coming of Jesus, will be framed by story, music and sacred scripture.

You are invited. Come on December 14th to walk and to listen, and to share the gifts our loving God has prepared for us this Advent season.

End of the Year Pledge Payment Information

Statements were sent out this week to all pledging members of the parish, indicating how much they have given as of Sunday, December 1. This is done as a courtesy as some lose track of their giving, a nd this reminder seems to be greatly appreciated by many. In addition, if you are paying any of your 2020 pledge before December 29, please indicate that it is for 2020 .   The treasurer will greatly appreciate it!   Thank you!!

Statements for tax purposes will be sent out in January, to ALL members who have made donations during the year 2019.
