News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

Please join me tonight at St. Mary's for our Lawn Chair Theologians Gathering from  7:00-8:30 p.m.    For those of you who may not be familiar with these gatherings, it is a time for interesting and compelling discussions about various spiritual and religious topics. All participants are invited to write down a question or a topic of interest and then the topics are placed in a hat and drawn randomly. We will discuss as many topics as we have time for. There is no right or wrong answers and there is no need to prepare anything, no assigned reading and no experts. Just bring an open mind and an open heart. Come and join the conversation or just listen. All are welcome. Bring a snack or beverages to share if you wish. Although it is a very nice night to sit out, we will use the hall because I am told the land is full of mosquitoes. I hope you will join me!

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in our Free Community Meal this past Saturday. Chef Tom made an outstanding meal and we served 93 people. We had many new people and saw some returning guests as well. Thank you to all of our volunteers, most especially the Boy Scout Troop from Huntley who were so very helpful. We could not do this dinner without our servers, bussers, shoppers, greeters, clean-up crew, set up crew, and kitchen help. Thank you one and all!

This Sunday Del Smith will be leading our hymns on the piano in Sandy's absence. I am so grateful to him for volunteering his time to enhance our worship. I asked your continued prayers for Sandy for health and healing.

You are all cordially invited to attend our Coffee Hour Celebration this Sunday following our 10:00 a.m. worship service. We will be celebrating Amy Noe's 60 th Birthday with a special cake. Please stop in and help us celebrate our wonderful administrator, friend and parishioner. I cannot say enough about how much Amy does for the parish and what a wonderful person she is.   Happy Birthday Amy!

Blessings,
Fran+

Thirteenth Bishop of Chicago Search Committee -
Your Input is Needed

The Bishop Search & Nomination Committee invites all laypeople and clergy in the diocese to attend a bishop search listening session. Input from listening sessions will guide the committee as they write our diocesan profile, a detailed description of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago that helps applicants learn more about us. Listening sessions will focus on how you see God at work in the diocese, what challenges we face together, and what we seek in our next bishop.

Dates and Locations are as follows:
Saturday, August 3
10:00-11:30 a.m. St. Gregory's, Deerfield
1:00-2:30 p.m., Emmanuel, Rockford

Organ Concert Opportunity

Last Fall, several parishioners attended two organ concerts at Church of the Holy Communion in Lake Geneva , which benefitted the restoration of their 1883 Pipe Organ . This Spring, the organ was disassembled and underwent a complete restoration.   On Sunday, August 4 , at 6:00 p.m., the church will present a Gala Concert to celebrate the return of the organ .   If you are interested in attending this concert, there are flyers on the Narthex table with a ticket order form, as well as many other details .   There is also a poster and additional order forms on the bulletin board in the hallway.

You may also see the information, and print a ticket order form here.   Just click on the photo of the Gala Concert.
