News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

This Sunday we will be welcoming Joe Merlino, our consultant from the Episcopal Church Foundation. He will be joining us at both our coffee hours to explain the Capital Campaign Process. This is an opportunity for you to learn about this program and to ask all of your questions. The program is a wonderful opportunity for us to consider projects and programs that we wish to engage in here in the parish and then to plan how we will fund them. Please join us as we need your input and your engagement in this process.

This year CROP WALK is celebrating its 50 th Anniversary! St. Mary's will once again have a team of walkers to raise money for the walk, and we will also host a rest stop for the one-mile and four-mile routes. Please go on our team page and make a donation or sign up to walk, help us eradicate hunger in our community!

See you all on Sunday

Crystal Lake Food Pantry News

Volunteers: The next food pantry volunteer opportunity is next  Wednesday, September 18.   Shift times are 8:30-11:30 a.m., or 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Contact  Aimee Day if you can help.

Paper Please: Donations of paper goods are greatly needed at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. The pantry is not able to buy paper goods through the food bank , and clients are not able to use their SNAP benefits to purchase any paper goods such as toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, and napkins . Bring them to the church any time, and your Board members will get them over to the pantry. Paper goods are items that are lightweight, easy to carry and low cost that can be donated and will be appreciated by the clients .  Thank you!!

Episcopal Church Foundation Consultant
to be with us  this Sunday September 15
after the 8:00 & 10:00 a.m. Services

I am excited to announce that with vestry approval, the Parish of St. Mary's is engaging in a  Kick-Start Capital Campaign Process with the Diocese of Chicago, and the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF). The ECF Campaign Method has three phases. The first is one of  Discernment , in which we as a congregation answer the questions "What is God calling us to do?", and "Who are we called to be?" This is an opportunity to gather ideas from each member of the congregation in house or cottage small-group meetings, regarding what projects and ministries you believe we should be engage in, if we had the funds.

The second phase is Feasibility , in which we determine, "Is a capital campaign feasible for our parish?"  Is our congregation willing to support our mission, ministry and areas of financial need?"

The third phase of the campaign is one called Solicitation , in which we ask what will people commit to financially. "Will you commit to a capital campaign to complete the projects and raise funds for the ministry we as a congregation have chosen?" It is only after completing all three phases that we would decide if we will engage in a capital campaign and raise the money for our goals.

We have a consultant from the Episcopal Church Foundation, and he will be with us to explain the entire process on Sunday September 15, after the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services. Please make it a point to be here, as this is your opportunity to learn about this process. Our consultant, Joe Merlino, who is working with several congregations in the Diocese of Chicago, will be here to present the program and to answer all of your questions. This is a parish wide process and your input is needed. I think you will find this a very engaging and helpful way for us to address some of goals, projects, and hopes for St. Mary's.
