Yesterday, Mrs. Van Heukelum (Library/PEAK teacher) had surgery to remove a tumor from a bone in her shoulder region. They are waiting for tests to come back regarding the status of the tumor. She should be returning to school shortly after Thanksgiving Break. Please join us in praying for good reports and quick healing for Mrs. Van.

Today we went through a lockdown drill at ACS.  T he drill was done during the middle of elementary morning recess. The recess supervisors did a great job moving the students to a safe location, and all students and staff in the building did exactly what they were supposed to do. An officer from the Ottawa County sheriff's department was also present for the drill.

The Foundation Dinner in October raised $20,000 for the Foundation and Tuition Assistance. For next year, we would love to add a couple people to the Dinner team. Help needed: If you would be willing to help in the areas of managing RSVP's and seating arrangements, party favors, or communication, please email Brian Koetje at This committee is considered one of the annual volunteer opportunities at ACS.

New voicemail options have been put into place when calling the school office after hours. If you want to leave a message you will need to press 0. There is an option to forward a call to Ed Goen, our custodian, or Brian Koetje, our principal. Please use the call forward option ONLY if there is an emergency!

Parents of Kindergarten students, If you are interested in moving your child to the 5-day a week class after Christmas, please let us know as soon as possible.

On Monday, December 3, ACS will be performing their annual Christmas concert for family and friends . This is a great way for us all to kick off the Christmas season and for the students to show you what they have learned so far this year in band and choir. It will take place at The Ceglarek Fine Arts Center at Allendale Public School at 6:30pm. A few details are below:
  • Young Fives & Kindergarten will sit with their parents for the first half of the concert and join their teachers at intermission.
  • 1st-5th graders should arrive at 6:15pm and meet their teachers in the choir room beyond the wooden double doors. We ask that all students stay for the duration of the program since we have a couple combined songs at the end. Students should dress up in their "Sunday best." Please no jeans or t-shirts with words.
  • 6th-8th graders should arrive at 6:10pm and meet their teachers in the band room beyond the wooden double doors. We ask that all students stay for the duration of the program since we have a couple combined songs at the end. All students should wear khaki pants and brown or black shoes (Flats are fine for girls, as long as they are close-toed). Each student should also wear their blue polo provided by the school. If you are in band, please be sure you have your instrument, music, and anything else you need to perform.
  • It was brought to my attention that there was no callback for band/choir polo shirts last year. So...if your student did not return their polo shirt, please do so ASAP!
  • If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Miss Brummel at Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Miss Brummel
Advance Notice: ACS was accepted in to the Teaching for Transformation program after the 2018-19 calendar was created. Because of this, we need to complete two training days on scheduled school days. Those days will be January 21 and April 15. School WILL be in session for those days, but there will be guest teachers in the classrooms. All specials classes will be held on their normal schedule. We understand what cancellations can do for child care issues and consistency for kids, so we have determined that it is best to have school in session those days. Classroom teachers will be still be in the building with training.

The Ottawa County Health Department will be at ACS this Friday, November 16 for Hearing and Vision Screening. ( K, 2, 4 for hearing and 1, 3, 5, 7 for vision)   Michigan's Hearing and Vision screenings are available FREE of charge by Local Health Departments in collaboration with local schools; the programs are administered by the Michigan Department of Community Health.
