Steven Schriver selected as new Landscape Gardener

The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services is pleased to announce the selection of Steven Schriver as the new Landscape Gardener in our Parks, Grounds & Facilities Maintenance Division. Steven holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Management from Brigham Young University and he also worked in Garden Maintenance while on campus. Most recently Steven was serving as the horticulturist with the Chippanee Country Club in Bristol since 2018. 

In anticipation of his new role, Steven said, "I'm excited to share my passion for horticulture with the community and be a part of maintaining and improving the beautiful outdoor spaces throughout Bristol."

Steven Schriver officially assumes the role of Landscape Gardener on Monday September 13, 2021 with an annual starting salary of $52,000. 
AQUATICS PROGRAMS
Many of our fall aquatics programs begin today at the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center (DMAC)!
AQUA ZUMBA
Tuesdays, 6:30 - 7:15pm

Aqua Zumba brings new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. It combines the South American Zumba rhythm and dance steps with a pool party. It offers a fun but challenging, water-based, body-toning workout. 

U.S. MASTERS SWIMMING PROGRAM
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:30 - 9:00 pm

U.S. Masters Swimming features 90 minute workout sessions with Coach Luis Sinche. USMS welcomes swimmers of all abilities that are ages 18 and up. Whether you're looking to get back in after a long break, improve your overall fitness, swim for fun, develop better technique, or train for a triathlon, US Masters Swimming can help!

TODDLER TIME AT THE POOL
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00 - 10:00 am

Calling all Toddlers! Bring an adult with you to DMAC for our newest program addition. We will provide pool equipment and dedicated space for use. Staff are also available to read books that focus on water safety.

RECREATION PROGRAMS
CO-ED 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL

Boys and Girls ages 9-13 will work on sharpening their basketball skills through various instructional drills. Participants will also have the opportunity to play in 3 on 3 games. New teams will be created each week to give participants the opportunity to socialize with their peers. Program meets Chippen's Hill Middle School on Tuesdays or Saturdays, times vary. 

SKYHAWKS SOCCER TOTS

Soccer-themed motor skill classes offered on Saturdays for ages 2 - 5 at Stafford School. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and self-confidence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus, and introduce an element of light competition. Instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development.

SPORTS FUN

Children will be introduced to skill building, cooperation, sportsmanship, and teamwork at Stafford Elementary School on Wednesdays .
For children ages 2-5, this fun introduction to sports and games is a great opportunity to socialize with others their age! 
Youth ages 6-12 yrs will enjoy a medley of exciting games which will keep your child engaged in age appropriate activities with their peers.

In honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, the Parent and Child Program will be collecting diapers and high need items for Bristol's Caring Closet. We'll be collecting donations at the Mum Festival in the vendor area.
GREEN TEAM

Hoppers Birge Pond Nature Preserve
The mission is simple; to keep our parks beautiful and free from trash. This fun competition rewards the group who collects the most trash in an hour. Bristol Green Team volunteers should plan to meet at 9 AM in the Crescent Drive parking lot. Learn More

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR

We're gearing up for Halloween and we need your help to make this year's Halloween extra Spooktacular. On October 23rd, at the Rockwell Park Amphitheater we'll be hosting a kids carnival - here's how you can get in on the fun:

On October 16th, the City of Bristol, its department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services, the Bristol Historical Society, along with the Bristol Veterans Council, and the Memorial Military Museum plan to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the Memorial Boulevard which opened in 1921.

Historical and entertaining centennial celebration events showcasing the proud history and promising future of the Bristol Community and the entrance to downtown. Highlights will include a welcoming ceremony, musical performances, walking exhibits, and food and drink.

COMMUNITY GARDEN OPENS ON
HIGH STREET

The Community Garden at the Youth and Community Services building (located at 51 High street) is officially open. Aubrey Minkler, community Services Coordinator is excited to finally see their hard work pay off and be able to offer healthy options to the community.

INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY

On Tuesday, August 31st the BEST Coalition was invited to the State Capital in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. Organized by DMHA,S with the major support of Wheeler Clinics Clearing House, numerous organizations from the surrounding communities gathered in support of Overdose Awareness.
