Note from the Nurse
We have seen an increase in illnesses such as the Flu, common viruses, and
Norovirus
, otherwise known as “the stomach bug.” Early identification is key in treating and limiting the spread of such illnesses. In the past week, we have had multiple confirmed diagnoses of the Flu. During the school day, if a student seems “off,” a staff member will refer them to the health office for an assessment. If the student has a fever, they will remain in the health office until they can be picked up.
If you notice your child(ren) not seeming themselves, please take their temperature. A student must be home
for at least 24 hours
free of any fever-reducing medications being consumed such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen (temperature of 100 or above). If your child has not yet received the flu vaccine, it's not too late. The flu vaccine is effective in avoiding or reducing the severity of a flu diagnosis.
We are cleaning and disinfecting surfaces on a regular basis here at Thacher, and we are encouraging students to be vigilant about hand washing. Washing hands with soap and water often is the best way to limit the spread of germs.
