Why Thacher?

Help us show prospective families...

The 2021/22 admissions season is well underway. We typically invite prospective families to our school for a fall Open House to showcase our warm, friendly, and dedicated community. Since we are unable to do that this year, we decided to create a short Open House Video for interested families. The video will include footage and pictures about the school day, enrichment, and the Montessori philosophy. Our Open House Video wouldn't be complete without you, our committed families!

Please help us showcase our amazing community by sending a short quote, message, or video (up to 30 seconds | landscape) about your experience at Thacher.

Use the links below to contribute to the video by Tuesday, November 17. This is a unique year. Let's be creative and show prospective families why they should choose Thacher!
Picture Retake Day - 11/23

If your child was absent on Picture Day, or if you need a retake, Retake Day is Monday, November 23. Details to follow.

Thacher Diversity Corner
Greetings from the Thacher Diversity Committee. We have an exciting update--during the November 2nd professional day, the whole staff of Thacher Montessori began a series of workshops on Anti-Bias, Anti-Racist education. Our sessions are based on the wonderful resource written by Tiffany Jewel entitled This Book is Anti-Racist.

In our first session, we reflected on the identities with which we grew up, identities we align with today, and privileges accorded to us by society. We then learned about systemic racism, including watching the video Systemic Racism Explained.

We concluded by examining how we can support the developing identities of children in our community. Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive. The staff is very excited to begin this work and reported many ways that their thinking is already growing and changing. There are extra copies of the book available for parents to borrow. Please see Asha Park-Carter or Nikki Toon to reserve your copy.

Anti-racist self-education--both as individuals and as a school community--takes consistent time, attention, and care. Thank you, Deba, and the whole Thacher community for supporting us as we begin this important work!
