Plastic Recycling Program

Dear Thacher Families,

Most of us know that plastic bags have a huge impact on the environment. They are found in city gutters, trees, abandoned lots, and of course the ocean. So I decided to do something about it. I wrote letters to the Mayor of Boston explaining how I thought there should be a bag ban. Finally after 2 years of hard work, in the fall of 2017 Boston city councilors voted 12-0 in favor of the bag ban and it will be implemented on December 14, 2018. 

Now it is time for Thacher to take action. Thacher has started a recycling program for plastic films, plastic bags, etc.. Here is a list of plastics you can bring in and deposit in the box just inside the Thacher front door. 

Thank you for helping to reduce plastic waste and thank you Kate Ellington for bringing this idea to the Thacher community!

The Inly Inclusion Conference of 2018

A few weeks ago, five of us took part in an inclusion conference held at the Inly School in Scituate with students from other Montessori schools. We were able to choose two classes to attend from a variety of different options. In these classes, we all learned about many different things, including a transgender woman’s experience, the LGBTQQIAAP+ community, the social hierarchy of financial classes, how baking can bring people together, and more. These classes provided a mix of Montessori-style learning methods and different views from unique people. Since we weren't able to attend all of the classes, we found ourselves reporting back to our Thacher-friends during lunch (a breaking period between the two classes). Read more...
