Important Notice from Head of School
Dear Thacher Community,
I feel certain that the majority of you reading this will not be surprised, and may well be relieved, to hear that
effective today, Friday, March 13, I am closing the school at 6:00 PM. The planned time to reopen is Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
Evidence shows that social distancing is one of the most effective ways to combat the spread of infectious diseases like the COVID-19 virus. Social distancing occurs when people stay away from crowds and large gatherings, and when they maintain a person-to-person distance of at least six feet.
As I stated yesterday, Thacher has no known person under state mandated-investigation for COVID-19, but the risks and reality are that we just don't know who may or may not have been exposed. The best way to handle the growing uncertainty is to take immediate action and “flatten the curve” regarding the potential for spreading the disease.
As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, the Thacher administrative team and I will continue to monitor the situation with the daily updates we have been using to guide us. I will reevaluate the prudence of returning on April 1.
We will keep you abreast of our decisions as they unfold.
Nurse Carolynn has been invaluable in her daily monitoring and consistent updates from the MA Department of Public Health and the CDC. To date, all decisions made have been guided by the MA DPH and CDC recommendations.
Updates on Schedule and Protocol Changes
- Parent/Guide Conferences are cancelled for March 26 & 27. Rescheduling details will follow at a later date.
- The Montessori Journey scheduled for April 2 is cancelled.
- All Thacher Field trips are cancelled until further notice. This includes local and out of state field trips.
- All sports activities are cancelled until further notice.
- IOWA Test Prep and the IOWA Test dates will be postponed.
