A Note from the Head of School

Dear Families,

I hope this Notes Home finds you healthy and finding a new workable routine for your family. It feels like a long time even though it has only been two weeks since the close of school, of students and parents learning to work from home, and the continuation of the “social distancing” period of this pandemic.

This past Monday you should have received the second correspondence from your child(ren)’s guide including “work from home” suggestions or requirements appropriate to their level. The elementary and adolescent levels are already exchanging thoughts, ideas, and work through Google Classroom. The children were so happy to be able reconnect!

Thank you for your patience as we determine the logistics (and developmental appropriateness) of offering electronic meetings, via platforms like Zoom, with the children. In the next day, you should receive a parental consent form allowing your child to participate virtually with their classroom guide and peers. This consent document will be sent directly to your parent portal via Transparent Classroom. Parents must consent in order for children to participate in online meetings with their guide and classmates.

Looking forward to taking these next steps in our virtual learning process together!

In partnership,

Deba

Our friends at St. Joseph Montessori School created a Celebration Video to keep their community connected as they work from home. It inspired us to set up a shared Thacher album.

We invite you to add photos of you and your child(ren)'s home life during the school closure.

Help us show our Thacher spirit to other Montessori communities!

Google Classrooms
Earlier this week we launched Google Classrooms for our Upper Elementary students . UE students were given their own Thacher student email and joined their new classrooms electronically. Within hours of launching the program, most students were online and chatting with classmates and guides.

Zoom
Participants (students or parents) do not have to have a Zoom account to attend a Zoom meeting. You will be prompted to download the software, once you have clicked on the link that you have been provided. You may also wish to create an account, but that is not required to participate in a Zoom meeting.

You are welcome to sit in on any electronic conference your child has with their guide, but after signing the parental consent form (mentioned above), it is no longer a requirement.

Teachers will initiate all meetings with parents and students.

Electronic Communication Packet
On Mondays, families will receive communications from their Lead Guides containing age-appropriate work assignments, activities, or suggestions for your child's weekly work-at-home responsibilities.

We hope that everyone will take the time to read the ' Thacher Montessori - Learning from Home Handbook.'
