A Note from the Head of School
Dear Thacher Families,
Welcome to May - I hope this new month brings warmer days and ample sunshine. In this week’s Notes Home, I want to share information about the preparations Thacher is making for the fall, as well as give you pertinent, time-sensitive information about what’s happening now.
Michelle and I are working closely with our administrative team, Thacher Trustees, and other Montessori professionals to collaborate and formulate a solid plan for the reopening of school in the fall. Although the hope is that we can safely return to campus in September, we are preparing for the reality that distance learning could continue into this upcoming school year.
I realize that parents have many questions regarding exactly what Thacher’s distance-learning program may look like in September (or thereafter), and I recognize that families need reassurance pertaining to logistics and finances. I assure you that we are carefully crafting this plan now.
The uncertainty around the re-opening of the economy ahead of the start of the school year in September, or potential closings later in the Fall because of a resurgence of COVID-19, are indeed a concern.
We are evaluating a range of options and will present a clear plan that will be communicated to parents prior to June 1st
.
Looking to address the more immediate needs of our families, Michelle and I are having on-going conversations with our Thacher families (you!) to hear your direct feedback and solicit your ideas and input.
The feedback we’ve received thus far from parents indicates a strong desire for a
clear and consistent schedule
for the children. This consistency will also help parents in synching their child(ren)’s schedule with their own personal work calendars.
Clearly defined office hours
for each classroom guide is also something that families would find beneficial, as well as a desire for
instruction in navigating Google Classroom
(including Google Calendar).
If you have not already done so, I ask that you complete the
P
arent Survey
that was sent home to all families on Monday. Along with the wonderful suggestions above that have come from our direct conversations with parents, the feedback from this survey will be just as beneficial, as we continue to strive to improve our distance-learning strategies.
In partnership,
Deba
