Dear LFS Families,
It is hard to fully capture in words how excited we are to see all of the children on campus today. After months of distance learning, which likely felt like years to our children (and to some parents of young children!), we are finally together. I am enjoying learning everyone's names and talking with your children. Perhaps as an emblematic sign of our collective excitement, one teacher exclaimed to me yesterday that she hadn't worn her "teacher pants" since March!
But of course we are together as a school community under new and very different circumstances, as we all adhere to our multifaceted health and safety guidelines. And while we are overjoyed to have the children here, we know that the risks are high and that we are all assuming a great deal of responsibility for keeping every member of our community as safe as possible through this pandemic. For us to be successful, we need all families to understand our health and safety guidelines and to follow them strictly. Many details and parent questions were addressed at last week's Return-to-Campus Parent Orientation, and if you weren't able to attend--or just want to go over the specifics one more time--you can access the full recording here. We also are finding, as we turn our plans into action and benefit from experience, that some details about our processes will be tweaked, so we will continue to communicate about any changes.
Given our experiences these first few days with students on campus, we also felt that it would be helpful to share the following top-level reminders for families. Please review these and of course let us know if you have any questions.
Reminders
-
A health screen for your student must be completed each morning before the student comes to school.
-
Check the weather for the day and send kids with appropriate torso, leg, and foot wear. Also rain gear and layering clothes, since we will be going outdoors regardless of the weather.
-
Stewart is the only Drop Off and Pick Up point
-
Reminder that there is no parking permitting on Lansdowne Avenue. Borough police are monitoring and will be present at times to enforce and to issue tickets.
-
It is not necessary to call the Main Office upon arrival at the curb for afternoon pick up. Staff will be at the curb to assist you. Please stay in your car. You only need to call the Main Office when there is a change in your pick up plans or if you need to pick up a child at a different time.
Please also continue to reach out to me and to attend the Friday virtual coffees. Also be on the lookout for an upcoming parent survey, as we look to gather more information not only about our distance learning program (as we may at some point need to return to distance teaching), but also about our return to campus implementation and the prospect of moving back to "distance mode" between Thanksgiving and the winter holidays. I also envision hosting "town hall" conversations for parents in the coming weeks about the risks/benefits of being on campus during the pandemic.
Thank you so much for partnering with us--and for trusting us with your children--during this incredibly unusual time.
Tr. Neal

5th And 6th Graders Present at Gathering
5th and 6th graders chose a topic that connects to them in some way-a summer activity or something they've been wondering about, etc. From movement of the earth, to coding games, to towing cars, each student chose a topic, learned about it and presented to the school. Thanks, 5th and 6th graders! Thanks, Tr. Jen and Karen!
