Fifth Sunday after Epiphany
Isaiah 6:1-13
Psalm 138
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Luke 5:1-11

The fifth Sunday after Epiphany continues to highlight unlikely instruments and circumstances appointed to reveal the glory of the Lord. “Who will go for us?” queries the voice of the Lord. A man of unclean lips, a former persecutor of the church of God, and three fishermen who couldn’t catch a thing. More surprising still, perhaps, is the fact that we are also called.

One Day Retreat, February 16
As we learn to love ourselves as God loves us, we are better able to love others with the heart of God.

As God’s people, we are called to love one another  as we love ourselves, to respect the richness of our diversity, and to build up one another in love. Loving one another shows that we are “born of God and know God” (1 John 4:7). God used diversity to create a world that God called good! Through an appreciation of this diversity, we are able to love others and show our love to God.

Annual One-Day Retreats will be held across the synod on Saturday, February 16, 2019 . The closest location to us is St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Hickory. The registration deadline is TODAY Wednesday, February 6 and the $10 cost includes lunch and supplies. Learn more.

Let us pray...
United as one body in Christ, let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

We pray for the church. Give us courage to answer your call and keep us faithful to your life-giving word. Send us out to be the good news of your love for all people.

For the earth. For tundra and forests, grasslands and deserts; for those who fish and those who farm. For ranchers, gardeners, and all whose work brings food to our tables.

For the nations. Grant wisdom to those in authority. Strengthen peacekeepers, ambassadors, military personnel, and disaster relief workers. Protect families who have to leave their homes because of war, natural disasters, or rejection by their communities.

For the body of Christ. Instead of recognizing and celebrating our oneness, we have divided ourselves into races, classes, colors, and nationalities; we have witnessed hatred, prejudice, and the denial of freedom and justice for all. Open our eyes and heal the brokenness of our nation and world that we would know that we are one, and help us overcome racism, bigotry, and hatred.

For Gastonia’s Agape mission community. Let us celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. May you show your children that they are all welcome and perfect in your image, lifting up their differences as gifts. May they live their truths, and enjoy spaces that are safe and affirming to live, worship, and thrive in.

For those in need. For those whose lives are in turmoil; for those who wrestle with addiction; for those burdened by anxiety and self-doubt. For those who grieve, and those who are ill. We pray especially for those we name aloud now or silently in our hearts….

For this congregation. For those who prepare this space for worship and those who mentor others in the faith; for those who nurture fellowship within this congregation and those who reach out in service to our community.

With thanksgiving, we remember those who have died and now rest in your presence, especially Calvin Blalock. Sustain us in hope of the resurrection and bring us into the joy of unending life in you.

Receive our prayers and fill us with the radiance of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
