NEW!

SAR Broker/member Tom Hormel (pictured above, right) was installed, this week, as the 86th president of the Washington REALTORS® organization.

Tom's theme for this year is "We R in this Together."

Tom was installed by Washington REALTORS ®Past-president Terry Sullivan (pictured above, left), who held the office in 2006.

The installation was conducted virtually Wednesday afternoon in a live Zoom event that originated from Spokane - the first virtual installation of an annual WR president since the tradition began in 1935.

Among REALTOR® leaders who offered congratulations to the new WR president was 2021 NAR President Charlie Oppler (pictured above). Charlie recently announced that the national Legislative Meetings will all be virtual this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic (see his video announcement in this newsletter).

Washington REALTORS® 2021 Hill Day

Washington REALTORS® conducted its 2021 Hill Day virtually, this week. While the REALTOR® voice is still being heard in Olympia this year, we are speaking click-to-click instead of face-to-face.

Organized under the theme of "My Neighbor," this year, these are our Washington REALTORS® legislative priorities:

  • Removing Racial Covenants - HB 1335
    - Concerning review and property owner notification of recorded documents with unlawful racial restrictions
  • Condo Reform - SB 5024 - Spokane Valley Senator Mike Padden's bill - Reducing barriers to condominium construction.
  • GMA/Density - HB 1157 - Increasing housing supply through the growth management act and housing density tax incentives for local governments.
  • Accessory Dwelling Units in Rural Areas - HB 1298/SB 5221 - Concerning regulation of accessory dwelling units located outside of urban growth areas.

You can follow the legislation affecting Spokane REALTORS® this session online here.
