Federal Court:
DOJ Must Uphold Settlement with NAR
The decision ends a Department of Justice inquiry into the association’s Clear Cooperation Policy and participation rule.
On Wednesday, a federal judge granted the National Association of REALTORS®’ petition to end a Department of Justice inquiry into the association’s Clear Cooperation Policy and participation rule.

NAR filed the petition in September 2021 after the Department of Justice announced it was backing out of a November 2020 settlement agreement.

That settlement agreement emphasized and furthered NAR’s longstanding pro-consumer guidance.

Even while the court was considering the petition, NAR moved forward with the terms of the settlement, clarifying its policies to further what was already their spirit and intent.
Please take 30 seconds
and ask your Legislators to make the 2023 session a session where housing is the top priority.
We know that housing inventory and affordability are at crisis levels in Washington.

We need your help to encourage our State Legislators to make Housing the top priority in the upcoming session.

Please use the form on this page to send a message to your state legislator, urging them to make 2023 the year where housing is a top priority!

Washington REALTORS® is working in a coalition on a number of housing bills including:
  • encouraging more condominium and townhome development,
  • allowing ADUs in rural areas,
  • allowing the option of duplexes and triplexes in single-family neighborhoods.

Please take 30 seconds and ask your Legislators to make the 2023 session a session where housing is the top priority.
2023 Hill Day brings
500+ REALTORS® to Olympia, 35 of those from Spokane.
REALTORS® return in person to Olympia after two years of virtual meetings to discuss housing priorities with legislators.
2023 President Tom Hormel (left) and 2023 SR Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Tom Clark (Right) both attended Hill Day in Olympia, last week.

Here, they join to share a review of the event and offer some perspective on the value and success of this year's Hill Day.

The video runs about five-minutes.
SAR Now SR
The Spokane Association of REALTORS® recently filed a Doing Business As (DBA) with the State of Washington after NAR approved the application from our board last year.

Our new branding name is Spokane Realtors® - SR instead of SAR.

This takes inspiration from the two-word title of our state organization - Washington Realtors® - and streamlines our colloquial name by removing a preposition and an unnecessary noun for our public-facing identity.

You're now a Spokane Realtors® member!

We're still the Spokane Association of Realtors® on all legal documents.
Bill to ease Washington’s housing crisis would allow up to fourplex on all residential lots
Single-family homes may soon be less common in new development across the state.

A bill making its way through the Legislature would allow “middle housing” – up to a fourplex – on all residential lots in cities of 6,000 or more.

The proposal is making its second appearance in the Legislature, this time with more cities covered and with bipartisan support. It comes at a time when the Legislature is looking to address the housing and homelessness crisis in a number of different ways, including with zoning, renter protections and affordable housing availability.
The Vitalant Blood Mobile bus (pictured) was in the SR parking lot, this week, as members took a few minutes in their busy days to help others.
Event chair Heather Schelling (pictured) says "It was a packed bus, full of energy and smiles! Vitalant has a two-day supply right now, they are in critical need. Seeing the members and staff pull together to help save lives is not only heart-warming but speaks to our commitment to our community."
Many people believe that most blood is needed after major disasters.

However, daily personal emergencies and ongoing medical needs of thousands of patients require a constant and ready blood supply.

Watch for details here about our next SR blood drive, likely in March.
Mortgage Rate Predictions So Far are Bearing Out
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage dropped again this week, another hopeful sign that more home shoppers will soon return to the market.
The interest rate for the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.15% this week, according to Freddie Mac, continuing its decline from a peak of 7.08% in mid-November.

Monthly mortgage payments have fallen about $300 per month in that time, says Nadia Evangelou, senior economist and director of forecasting for the National Association of REALTORS®.

And that could bring more home buyers back into the market.
