Document Recording Fees Increase

Fees Increase July 26th
Buying a home is about to get a little bit more expensive.
On July 26, recording fees at the Spokane County Auditor's Office will increase $100.
It's a change brought on by House Bill 1277, which the state legislature passed this year.
The purpose of the bill, and the fee increase it requires, is to generate more money for affordable housing and ending homelessness.

The county warns that documents received without the proper fee on and after July 26th will be returned to the submitter.

More Important than Ever
|
Leaders of the Spokane Association of Realtors and its affiliated political action committees say it's more important than ever to invest, and invest early, in the council races.
Realtors hope the candidates they're backing - Jonathan Bingle in the northeast council district and Mike Lish in the northwest - will bring balance to a City Council they believe has become one-sided.
"We're putting the full force of the PAC behind them," said Tom Hormel, the Spokane-based president of Washington Realtors and member of the Washington Realtors Political Action Committee's legislative steering committee.

We might write the headline this way: Realtors spend big on housing - again.
REALTORS® Endorse Housing Advocates
The Spokane Association of REALTORS® (SAR) and the Washington REALTORS® Political Action Committee proudly endorse three Spokane City Council candidates, all of whom will advocate for housing and home ownership in the 2021 Elections:
Spokane City Council
Dist. 1 Jonathan Bingle
Dist. 2 Betsy Wilkerson (incumbent)
Dist. 3 Michael Lish
Each of the candidates met with a team of REALTOR® member volunteers, who made a unanimous choice of those selected. "There has never been a more critical time in our city's history for issues surrounding housing," said SAR President Eric Johnson. "We believe these candidates represent Spokane's best chance at repairing 10 years of under-building in our region."
2021 Primary Election ballots were mailed on July 14th.
2021 Primary Election ballots are due August 3rd.

SIGN THE LETTER
by July 26th!
Tell the City of Spokane to allow more homes...now!
For more than a decade, Spokane has failed to build enough homes to meet the demands of our growing community.
As a result, housing prices are increasing at a never-before-seen pace.
On July 26th, the Spokane City Council will vote on its Housing Action Plan - one we believe is based on out-of-date housing information and will NOT adequately address the severe housing shortage we now face.
Sign the letter. Tell our city leaders their Spokane Housing Action Plan fails to address our immediate housing crisis.
Ask your clients and business associates to sign the letter, too! Forward this link so they may be included in our Call for Action:

Form 22E FIRPTA Certificate
|
NEW!
Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons answers a question she's received regarding FIRPTA (Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act).
In the 2021 version of Form 21, Buyers are given the right to deliver a notice of Right to Terminate if seller has not delivered a signed FIRPTA Certificate to Escrow (Form 22E).
The question is this: if seller has not delivered the certificate but has identified in the MLS the citizenship status or it has been marked on the face of Form 21, is that sufficient to eliminate the Buyer's Right to Terminate?
Annie clarifies the documentation needed in her new four-minute video:
