A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco
On behalf of everyone at Oak Ridge Elementary, we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your friends and family. Oak Ridge staff members are thankful each day that we work in such a supportive and caring community. Parents and volunteers are an essential part of Oak Ridge every single day and it is this partnership between the home and school that makes Oak Ridge the special school that it is! As I prepared to write this piece for the newsletter, I reflected on the start of this school year and then took a few moments to look ahead at the busy next few weeks. We have already accomplished so much in the first three months of school and the upcoming months look to continue being busy but very engaging and exciting for all students.

We look forward to a promising Science Fair that will be showcased on Thursday, Nov. 29 th . We also look forward to the annual Spelling Bee that will be held on Friday, December 11 th . These are just a couple of events – please check out the school’s website to view the school calendar for more upcoming events.

Again, thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful week.

STILL LOOKING FOR JUDGES!

ORE continues to need judges for the Science Fair on November 28, 2018 . Students from all grade levels are currently working hard to complete their Science Fair projects and judges are needed for this event. Judging will start at 8:00 AM and the PTO will provide snacks and lunch.

Reading Makes a Big Difference! A note from our Media Specialist
Parents, did you know that children who consistently read for at least 20 minutes every night typically outperform 90% of their peers on standardized tests? More importantly, reading nightly with a loved one helps create a lifelong love for reading.

Here at Oak Ridge Elementary, we participate in the GCS Reads 30 program. Please click on this flyer for more information.

As a school, we recognize the classroom at each grade level who read the most minutes for the month. The winning classroom proudly displays a large ribbon on their classroom door so that everyone can see. We hope to recognize your student's classroom next month.

The deadline for submission of all reading minutes for November is December 5, 2018. Please make sure your child is reading each night, and that he/she is turning in their logs on time so that their minutes are counted towards the classroom totals.

There is still time! SIGN UP TO HELP: Luminaries' Set-Up at Oak Ridge Town Park on Saturday, December 1. The event itself is at 6 PM that evening!

Erratum regarding Jump Rope for Heart
Last week, we published the wrong dates for Jump Rope for Heart at Oak Ridge Elementary. It will not be taking place this week.

Jump Rope for Heart is scheduled for February 2019 and we hope that you will stay tuned for more details as the date gets closer.

We apologize for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
Help Needed: ORE Coordinator with Northwest Guilford Area Backpack Ministry
Northwest Guilford Area Backpacks needs a parent(s) to help coordinate Oak Ridge Elementary' s Third Grade Class Service Learning Project. The 3rd Grade Class for the past several years has collected food and packed bags for the children in the Northwest Guilford Area Backpack Program.   You do not have to have a 3rd grader to help.

For more information about the program and a specific description of the Coordinator role, please read this flyer.

Can you and/or a friend help? Please email Amy Bruce at abruce22@triad.rr.com if you have any questions and/or would like to help.

Sponsorship Opportunities
All of our sponsors, no matter how big or small, make a difference. Sponsoring our weekly newsletter, gymnasium banners, website and school planners helps us provide the school staff, our students and our families resources that the school's budget does not provide. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please contact us.
