"My center is the heart of every lover.

Every lover with a heart that loves Baba is a center."

Meher Baba

At Meher Center, 1956

Dear Meher Center Family and Friends,

An important note from the Gateway: We have changed our policy for making reservations for 2023! Starting November 1 (for January), Gateway is taking reservations two months in advance of the date you are asking to arrive. For example, you can reserve on November 1 for January 1, or November 5 for January 5. Just call the Gateway exactly two months ahead of the date for which you are trying to reserve. This is the earliest you can call, but of course if you miss that date, we will still accept reservations provided we have room.

Additionally, the Young Adult Sahavas at Meher Center is fast approaching. This gathering is open to those between the ages of 18-43, and will focus on celebrating Meher Baba's presence in our lives. Child care will be provided. Please click here for more information.

In July of 1959, while in Poona, India, Meher Baba said:

“Better than your being with me is my being with you! I am in everybody's heart, but I am sleeping there. It is my old, old habit. In order to awaken me, you should always call out to me and say: "Baba, Baba, Baba!" continuously. Then I, who am asleep in your heart, will not find any pleasure in remaining asleep. Let alone sleep, I shall not find time even to doze! I shall slowly be awakened in your heart by hearing your constant call—your taking my name constantly.

"Once I am awake in your heart, you too would awake and remain awake for all time. Therefore, repeat my name constantly and awaken me in your hearts so that you become awake for all time.”*

In Baba’s love and service,

Meher Spiritual Center and Meher Baba's New Life

Many remain unaware of the significant connections between the Meher Spiritual Center and Meher Baba’s New Life. During the New Life, Meher Baba sold nearly everything He owned and ceased communication with His lovers who were not joining Him on His journey of “hopelessness and helplessness.” However, the Meher Center was one of two properties that remained in His name during the New Life period, and He kept up correspondence with Elizabeth Patterson and Norina Matchabelli regarding their work on the Center throughout. In this video, Jamie and Zo Newell explore these and other deep connections between Meher Spiritual Center and Meher Baba’s New Life.

"Just sing out"

In 1927, Baba composed a simple prayer made up of seven names of God: "Hari, Paramatma, Allah, Ahuramazd, God, Yezdan, Hu." He first had it repeated by the Prem Ashram boys, and later sung by the women Mandali. After Katie Irani retired in 1978 and followed Baba’s order to move to Meherazad, she would wake up in the early hours to pick flowers for Arti and clean the Blue Bus. This is her own tune to the “Seven Names of God” that she sang on some of these sacred mornings.
