Meher Baba's New Life

Baba's New Life Caravan at Meherazad

"This New Life is endless, and even after my physical death it will be kept alive by those who live the life of complete renunciation of falsehood, lies, hatred, anger, greed and lust; and who, to accomplish all this, do no lustful actions, do no harm to anyone, do no backbiting, do not seek material possessions or power, who accept no homage, neither covet honor nor shun disgrace, and fear no one and nothing; by those who rely wholly and solely on God, and who love God purely for the sake of loving; who believe in the lovers of God and in the reality of Manifestation, and yet do not expect any spiritual or material reward; who do not let go the hand of Truth, and who, without being upset by calamities, bravely and wholeheartedly face all hardships with one hundred percent cheerfulness, and give no importance to caste, creed and religious ceremonies. This New Life will live by itself eternally, even if there is no one to live it.”

Dear Meher Center Friends & Family,

A loving Jai Baba from Meher Center.

After more than seven months of being closed to the public, the board and staff of Meher Center are happy to welcome visitors once again to Meher Baba's home in the West. The Center opened its doors today, October 16, the anniversary of the New Life.  During this period, guests will be able to walk the exterior grounds for three hours each day. Please click here for more information.

A reminder to young adults in our community, the Center will hold its third annual Young Adult Sahavas from November 13 to 15. This year the event will be virtual and will include many of the usual engaging sahavas activities including artis, discussion groups, workshops, special speakers, and more.

As mentioned above, today is the anniversary of the New Life. Between 1949 and 1952, this was an enigmatic period in Meher Baba’s life, where He abandoned His ashrams and began to wander throughout India as a seeker of God, living what He called a life of "hopelessness and helplessness." This issue is dedicated to the New Life.

In Baba’s love and service,

"Good Bye Baba"
Katie Irani, one of Meher Baba's close Eastern Mandali, talks here about Baba's announcement of the New Life. She shares her shock, and His order for Katie to go to Bombay and get a job. All who were left behind were still under Him even though He claimed that they would never see Him again. This video displays the love, obedience and surrender expected of His disciples during the New Life and after. Katie's story ends with humor and a beautiful Huma Ghazal.

The Meher Spiritual Center and
Meher Baba's New Life
Many remain unaware of the significant connections between the Meher Spiritual Center and Meher Baba’s New Life. During the New Life, Meher Baba sold nearly everything He owned and ceased communication with His lovers who were not joining Him on His journey of “hopelessness and helplessness." However, the Meher Center was one of two properties that remained in His name during the New Life period, and He kept up correspondence with Elizabeth Patterson and Norina Matchabelli regarding their work on the Center throughout. In this video, Jamie and Zo Newell explore these and other deep connections between Meher Spiritual Center and Meher Baba’s New Life.
