Family Fun Activities for April

April brings warmer days, gentle rains (fingers crossed) and lots of chances for families with young children to explore, learn and play together. Here are some hands-on activities that can help your child learn based on the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards.

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Creative Expression: Make a spring-themed scavenger hunt for your child in the backyard or at a local park. Include things like a smooth rock, yellow flower, feather or something that makes a sound. Children enjoy finding and discovering new treasures. Butterfly or Insect

Observation Scientific Inquiry: Set up a small “observation station” by looking for butterflies, ladybugs or ants in the yard. Use a child-safe magnifying glass to look closely at the insects. Draw pictures or talk about what the insects might be doing. This activity helps children learn about science and nature.

Spend Family Time Outdoors Social Studies: Enjoy the warm weather and take some time with the family outdoors. Create a nature-themed sensory bin with leaves, sticks, rocks and toy animals. Let your child sort items, build little habitats or pretend-play.

Sidewalk Chalk Creations Mathematical Thinking: With warmer weather, grab some chalk and head outside to draw shapes and hopscotch paths, made in squares, on the sidewalk. Counting the number of shapes helps build early math skills in a creative way.

April is a great time for families to enjoy spring and spend quality time together. Each activity helps children build confidence, imagination and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Hunger Fights Fundraiser Update

Thanks to the generosity of our amazing families, we have not only reached our $1,000 goal for the Hunger Fights Fundraiser—we’ve nearly doubled it! We are now close to $2,000!

With this incredible support, we’re setting a new goal of $2,000. Reaching it will allow us to donate 4,350 meals to kids in Title I schools and provide 150 books to Title I preschools.

Every dollar truly makes a difference, and we’re so close to making an even bigger impact. Let’s keep the momentum going and finish strong together!

Field Day - May 14th

We are looking for parent volunteers to come join us in hosting a station for the students. Please reach out to Nora Chambers at NChambers@collagedayschool.org for further details and to register as a volunteer. This is a great opportunity to get your 10 hours of volunteering completed before the end of the year. As this is a student only event, parents are only able to attend if they are volunteering to host a station.

  • Thyme and oregano support respiratory wellness.
  • Add to soups or roasted vegetables.
  • Encourage nose breathing during calm moments.
  • Fresh air supports lung health.

Attention Parents and Businesses!

Another school year is ending and we would like to offer our Collage families and local businesses the opportunity to purchase a dedication page for your child, or an ad for your business, in the back of our yearbook.

🥩 HEALTH TIP: WHY PROTEIN MATTERS FOR METABOLISM & FAT LOSS

Protein is one of the most powerful nutrients when it comes to energy, metabolism, and body composition.

Here’s why it matters:

• Boosts metabolism – Your body burns more calories digesting protein than carbs or fats.

• Supports fat loss – Higher protein intake helps maintain lean muscle while reducing body fat.

• Keeps you fuller longer – Protein helps control appetite and prevents overeating.

• Builds and repairs muscle – Essential for athletes, growing kids, and active adults.

Simple ways to increase protein intake:

✔ Eggs or Greek yogurt for breakfast

✔ Chicken, fish, or lean beef at meals

✔ Protein smoothies after training

✔ Nuts, cottage cheese, or protein bars for snacks

A good general target for active individuals is about 0.7–1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day to support performance, metabolism, and recovery.

Strong bodies are built through smart training and smart nutrition.
