Celebrate Mom Through Learning-Focused Activities

Let's honor the moms in our lives through meaningful family engagement! Fun activities that involve quality time with your child can strengthen relationships and create lasting memories. The following activities are based on the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards. As we prepare for Mother's Day on May 11, let's get inspired by these learning-focused activities:

  • Physical Development: Have a mommy-and-me dance party. Play music and encourage your children to jump, spin, or clap along. Moving in different ways helps build coordination and motor skills.
  • Approaches to Learning: Set up a simple obstacle course with pillows, boxes, or furniture. Encourage your children to find creative ways to get through it, helping them develop persistence and problem-solving skills.
  • Social Skills and Emotional Competence: Make a “Mom and Me” feelings book. Have your child draw pictures or use photos to show different emotions, such as happy, sad, or excited. Talking about feelings builds self-awareness and enhances social skills.
  • Language and Literacy: Read a favorite book together and act out parts of the story. This activity strengthens listening skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Mathematical Thinking: Make a snack together and count ingredients like crackers, berries, or cheese slices to build early math skills, such as one-to-one correspondence.
  • Scientific Inquiry: Go on a walk outside and explore different textures. Let your child feel and describe rough tree bark, smooth leaves, and soft grass. Observing and describing sensations builds critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Social Studies: Look through family photos and talk about relatives. To help your child understand family relationships and community roles, discuss who these relatives are, where they live, and what they do for work or as a hobby.
  • Creative Expression: Make a homemade Mother’s Day card using crayons, stickers, or finger paint. Creating unique designs builds fine motor skills and encourages creativity.

Get Involved With Our Beach Day Cleanup at Guana Tolomato Matanzas Research Reserve

We can't wait for you to join us this Saturday! Orientation will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. in the GTM visitor center located at 505 Guana River Road Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. Click here for directions and more details about the GTM Research Reserve. When orientation ends at 9:30 a.m., we'll walk over to the beach from the visitor center and collect trash until 11:00 a.m. All participants will receive a GTM day pass and are encouraged to enjoy the beautiful reserve all day! There are picnic tables at the visitor center, an exhibit hall, and trails to explore, so pack a lunch and discover this coastal treasure. Be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, water, and comfortable shoes. We hope to see you there!

Deck the Bins

Deck the Chairs is partnering with Beaches Go Green and Waste Pro to showcase student art on 24 trash bins around the beaches. We welcome Collage's elementary students to use your art to promote environmental awareness. Your artwork can win $100 and help keep our beaches clean! Get inspired by all the activities we did throughout the month of April or allow your imagination to run wild with images of our natural surroundings. Ms. Amanda will be starting this project with classes at school and then students can take their artwork home to finish up. Submissions and applications are due to Ms. Amanda by May 7.

Parent Community Alliance (PCA) News

Year-End Reflections

Writing this is bittersweet, as it will likely be the last one I write for this school year. It has gone by so fast! It's been exciting to watch our kids grow this year, and it has truly been an honor to serve as the first PCA president. For our friends moving on, we wish you all the best. For those of us returning for the 2025-26 school year, I look forward to serving as the PCA president for the second year of my term and hope you will join the PCA as we grow. I would like to thank my fellow hard-working board members. Creating and launching the CDS Parent Community Alliance was a huge undertaking this year. With the same passion as a skilled gardener, we planted an idea and worked the soil to create an environment in which it could grow. So we can continue cultivating the PCA, we will work through the summer to establish a foundation of support and foster ongoing success of this partnership between faculty, parents, and community partners. In part, our work this summer will include building a budget and instituting a plan to support our school as it continues to grow. Additionally, we will map out fun events to build relationships and make memories, all while increasing funding to meet significant milestones during our children's time on campus. We hope you enjoy a fantastic summer, have fun, rest, and get ready to take on the next school year with enthusiasm as we once again join in our common goal of seeing our children thrive, learn, play, and be happy, healthy kids.

Fashion Fun Fridays at Collage: The Happiest Place on Earth

Before we fully embrace summer, there is still a little more time in the school year for some fun! Our last few weeks of Fashion Fun Fridays start this week and we planned this month's theme perfectly...Disney! To participate, just send in $2 with your child each Friday. Cash payments can be submitted to your child's teacher. Put on those favorite Disney character shirts and pair them with plain jeans with no holes, plain sweatpants, shorts, or uniform bottoms so your student can feel like they are ready to head to the park. Students who did not purchase a yearly FFF pass must pay each Friday to participate. Students not participating in FFF must be dressed in uniform. Let's dress for Disney and dream big this month!

**Please note that all other elements of the school dress code still apply. Any dress down days must be within school standards and all attire must be school appropriate. Also note that students who are not participating, do not sign up and pay, must be in uniform on these days.

Donate Your Used Uniforms

As the end of the school year approaches, remember you can donate any uniforms to the PCA. Please keep in mind that we add these donations to our uniform closet and sell them to other families, so only donate uniforms that can be used by another family for at least one more school year. All CDS-logoed items in good condition are welcome! We also take school-approved sweaters, jackets, and raincoats. You can donate uniforms by dropping them off at the front office of either building. Thank you for helping other families offset this cost and assisting the PCA in raising money for school initiatives. Such a win-win!

Hoot Hoot! Share Your Owl's Adventures All Summer Long

We would like to thank those who joined us this past Saturday for Stuff the Mascot...it was a hoot! The kids stuffed their owls full of love while stuffing their bellies full of ice-pops. The owls turned out great; they are so cute! To keep the owl-spirit going all summer long, Like and Follow us on Facebook, CDS Parent Community Alliance. Be sure to post and share your owl's adventures throughout the summer on our page. Whether they travel far away or stay cozy at home, we hope to see those owls as they enjoy the summer spent with their new best friends. Our Sincerest Appreciation

Finally, a big, big THANK YOU to everyone who supported the PCA this year through sponsorships, participation in events, donations, and volunteering your time. With your support, we were able to put together events like the golf tournament and Stuff the Mascot, all while raising money for campus improvements such as the the library expansion, new playground equipment at PVC, administrative and support staff appreciation, beautification of campus grounds, and so much more. So, on behalf of the entire PCA Board, we thank you and we look forward to partnering with you again next year to continue this great work. Enjoy your summer!
