Celebrating Mother's Day

Special Moments for Moms and Children Mother’s Day is a delightful time for families to celebrate the love, care, and encouragement that mothers and caregivers give every day. Mother’s Day is not just about gifts but also a time for moms to enjoy the strong bonds created with their children. The best gifts often come from spending time together and showing appreciation in simple, meaningful ways. Whether the celebration is big or small, creating joyful moments with your child can make the day special. Here are a few fun and easy activities that mothers and children can enjoy together:

Make a Handmade Card

Encourage your child to create a card using crayons, markers, stickers or craft supplies. Younger children can draw pictures of their family, while older children can write a short message about why they love their mom. Handmade cards can include family photos which become treasured keepsakes, often saved for years.

Prepare a Simple Meal

Start the day with a homemade breakfast or snack prepared together. Children can help make a delicious parfait by layering yogurt and fruit in a cup or help plan a picnic in the backyard. Preparing healthy treats together helps your child build confidence and good eating habits.

Plant Flowers or Start a Small Garden

Planting flowers in a pot or garden bed is a fun way to talk about how the sun and water helps plants to grow. Give your child the task of scooping soil into the pot or watering the plants with a small pail. Each time the flowers bloom, talk about the special day of planting together.

Share a Favorite Story

Spend some quiet time reading for fifteen minutes at home or at the park. Children can pick their favorite book or choose a story about families or kindness from the library. Discuss the main characters and what happens next in the story to encourage listening and language development.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms and caregivers who nurture, teach and inspire children every day!

UPPER SCHOOL

Upper School Updates

MAP Make-up Testing

Next week we will be completing MAP testing for students who were absent during our scheduled testing sessions or those who have not completed their test already. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and support as we work to ensure all students have the opportunity to do their best and show what they’ve learned this year. Please help your child arrive on time, well-rested, and ready to finish strong.

Happy Mother's Day

As we head into the weekend, we want to wish all of our mothers, grandmothers, and special mother figures a very Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for the love, encouragement, and countless ways you support our students each and every day. We hope your weekend is filled with joy and celebration.

Field Day - May 14th

We are looking for parent volunteers to come join us in hosting a station for the students. Please reach out to Nora Chambers at NChambers@collagedayschool.org for further details and to register as a volunteer. As this is a student only event, parents are only able to attend if they are volunteering to host a station.

Seasonal focus: Apples, nut butters

  • Apples support gut and immune health.
  • Pair fruit with protein for balance.
  • Avoid grazing all afternoon—structured snacks help regulation.

🥩 HEALTH TIP: WHY PROTEIN MATTERS FOR METABOLISM & FAT LOSS

Protein is one of the most powerful nutrients when it comes to energy, metabolism, and body composition.

Here’s why it matters:

• Boosts metabolism – Your body burns more calories digesting protein than carbs or fats.

• Supports fat loss – Higher protein intake helps maintain lean muscle while reducing body fat.

• Keeps you fuller longer – Protein helps control appetite and prevents overeating.

• Builds and repairs muscle – Essential for athletes, growing kids, and active adults.

Simple ways to increase protein intake:

✔ Eggs or Greek yogurt for breakfast

✔ Chicken, fish, or lean beef at meals

✔ Protein smoothies after training

✔ Nuts, cottage cheese, or protein bars for snacks

A good general target for active individuals is about 0.7–1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day to support performance, metabolism, and recovery.

Strong bodies are built through smart training and smart nutrition.
