ST. PHILIP PAGES AND BLOGS
Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful to see so many of you last week at Parent Conferences.  Remember that teachers are available to meet with you throughout the year, not just at the scheduled conference times, so feel free to meet with them whenever you have a question, a concern, or praise for something that you appreciate.

Next Tuesday, December 18, is our Christmas Worship Service which takes place in the church at 7 pm.  Students should be in their classrooms by 6:45 pm. Teachers bring their classes to the church to sing and then take their classes back to the school.  When the service is over parents go to the classrooms to pick up their children. For safety reasons, the school is locked during the service and students cannot be picked up early.  The service lasts just one hour. During the service, we ask that you remain seated and do not come to the front to take photos. We do videotape the service. If you wish to purchase the video, here is the flyer.

This is the tenth year of this service so I think it's fair to say it is a tradition.  I am sometimes asked why we don't change it from year to year. My answer is that our service might be one of the only times during the Christmas season that we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Jesus's story does not change. I hope that you sit back in the church and take this opportunity to hear the beautiful voices and reflect on the bible readings. It is one hour out of a busy, busy season and I hope that you see it as a gift to remind us of the reason for Christmas.

Have a beautiful week,

Jennifer

Student Teacher Education Plan (STEP)

Saint Philip School strives to provide maximum opportunity for each student to succeed. Efforts are made to assist each student to reach his/her highest potential through academic support, staff conferences, parent contacts, child conferences, and parent conferences.

To further help each child succeed, Saint Philip School has a Student Teacher Education Plan Team.  The STEP team works with parents and teachers to help solve academic, physical, social, or behavioral problems that interfere with student success. The team collaborates with the student and the student's parents and is consistent with Saint Philip's philosophy of reasonable adjustments.

D.C. ANGELS WANTED
Do you love to travel?  Do you know the benefits of travel for students? Travel builds confidence and independence, broadens world-view, increases academic performance, and gives students a sense of perspective and appreciation for their place in the world.  There is an opportunity for donors to support a St. Philip student on our annual 8th grade Washington DC trip!  We are looking for D.C. Angels who are willing to sponsor a student for $1600 (the actual cost is closer to $2,100).  We have several students whose families cannot afford the full cost of the trip and your support would mean the world to them.  These students help to pay for the trip through fundraising, but a few need extra help.  If you are interested, please contact Colleen Welsh, our Development Director at 626 795-9692 ext. 449 or email her at [email protected]g.  Thank you so much for considering being an angel to one of our students.

CROCHET CLASS WINTER SESSION

WOMEN'S RETREAT
The road is long and the journey is hard. Isn't that what the song says? Come to the mountain at Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, February 1-3, 2019 and reflect on "Be not anxious! Living in the peace of Christ." With the women of St. Philip Parish, experience the Way of the Cross traveled by Christ. For thousands of years, people of faith have retreated to the desert and mountains to witness the presence and call of God. Today, there often comes a time when we must say "no" to the busy-ness in our lives and simply say "yes" to the part of us that needs a time and space for deeper communion. Join us. To reserve your spot simply go to:www.materdolorosa.org or contact Jean Bowler ([email protected] or 626-793-8953); Mary Fitzpatrick [email protected] or 626-793-8555); Sheryl Valdez ([email protected] or 626-792-0220)
