Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was good to see all of the smiling faces coming in to school this morning. We only have a few weeks now until Christmas but so much going on before that. Next Thursday evening we have opening night of our fall drama production, Miracle on 34th Street. To preorder tickets for Thursday, Friday, or Saturday’s performances complete this form and return it to the office. Your seats will be reserved for you in the order that they come in. You can also purchase tickets at the door. All performances are at 6 pm.

Next Thursday and Friday we have Parent Conferences for grades 2 through 8. To sign up for a conference, go to Parent Teacher Conference Sign Up Link. The sign up will open at 7pm tonight.

Junior High parents have limited scheduled conference times on Friday for those who need to see all of the JH teachers. There are open times from 1:30 to 4:45 and 6 to 7 on Thursday for those who only need to see just a few JH teachers. 4th and 5th grades also have open times for those who wish to see the non-homeroom teacher. You can check the class newsletter for those times.

Finally, we are preparing for the Christmas Worship Service which will be outside right after school on Thursday, December 15. The gates will open at 2:30 pm for the 3:15 pm service. We welcome grandparents and other family members or friends to attend this beautiful service. Just bundle up if it is cold and bring your own seating. If by chance it is raining, we will move the service to the church but then we will only be able to accommodate parents.

Students will wear long pants and Christmas sweaters or nice shirts or blouses for the worship service. They can also get in the spirit with hats and scarves if they like.

The children have been working very hard to learn songs and instruments and this service is a retelling of the Christmas story. We ask that all guests remain for the entire service which last just an hour. Student will not be released to parents until the end of the service. Thanks for understanding.

Although these next weeks are super busy I hope that we all find time to appreciate our blessings and to remember what Christmas to all about.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

Reminders

Sunday Mass Student Volunteers

St. Philip the Apostle School is proud to be the largest ministry of St. Philip the Apostle Parish. As the largest active ministry of the parish, our students have been invited to have a regular, active role in our Sunday 9:00 AM Mass. Students in grades 4th-8th have been invited to be the Lectors for the first reading and to be greeters and ushers during the mass. We feel this is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience being active participants in our Parish Mass.

Click here for Sign Up Genius link. We would like to ensure that every 9:00 AM mass has our students participation.

Please note - families will be expected to attend the mass with the student. When you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions. Students who sign up will practice during the week before their scheduled mass.

Thank you and we look forward to having an active presence at the 9:00 AM Liturgy!

School Tours

Do you know anyone who may be interested in St. Philip the Apostle School? Encourage them to join us on a tour! The available tour dates are listed below. All tours start at 9am. To sign up, they can contact Tricia Ortega at [email protected].

2022-2023 Tour Dates: November 29, December 2 (Friday) & 13.

Tardies and early pick ups

If your child is late because of a doctor or dental appointment, please bring a note to the office from the professional for an excused tardy.

If you pick up your child early, please sign them out at the front desk. If someone other than the parent picks up a child during the school day, we need a note signed and dated by a parent giving that adult permission to take the child out early. This is the case even if they are on the carpool and/or the emergency list. Thank you for understanding that this is to keep your child safe!

Popsicle Fridays

Be sure to send your child to school with $1.00 for a cold treat that will benefit the 8th grade fundraising efforts for the DC trip.

Reporting Absences

When reporting your child out, please state the reason for the absence. Thank you for being a partner in keeping everyone safe!

You can report your attendance to Karen Conley at [email protected].

SVDP's Bucket and Burrito Sunday

Celebrate Advent with Bucket and Burrito Sunday, on December 4th at all morning masses. Please bring your gently used clothing for the St.Vincent de Paul Truck collection. We will be collecting coins from buckets and selling burritos in Holy Angel Hall. Click here for information flyer.

SVDP's Christmas Angel Program

Would your family benefit from heart-felt gifts at Christmas to offset financial difficulty? Are you a Christmas Angel who's inspired to assist a local family, but don't know how? We at the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry can help! Our Christmas Angel Program strives to enhance the spirituality and well-being of both families in need and parish "Angels" during the Christmas season. SVDP talks with families, identifies some modest wants and needs of their members, and conveys a "wish list" to each Angel donor. Families range from single parents with kids to multi-generational households, sometimes with disabled adult members. We keep all family and Angel identities confidential.

Gift-giving allows Angels to experience selfless acts of kindness that truly make a difference. Angels wrap their purchased items and provide them to SVDP in time for Christmas.

If you would like to participate as a recipient or Angel, leave your name, phone number and email address no later than November 28 on St. Vincent de Paul's hotline (626-863-7041) or email them to [email protected]. Clarify if you want to participate as a recipient or Angel. We will respond soon after.

Blessings and thank you!
