Green Team Tour a Success!

On Friday, November 7, we had an exclusive visit to the Walnut Creek Wetland Educational Center and Nature Park, and we were happy to be joined by our brothers and sisters from St. Ambrose Episcopal Church.

We started with a presentation in the Educational Center, followed by a gentle walk along the park's accessible trails. Beyond the beautiful nature, we learned the powerful story behind this place—a story of environmental injustice with a happy ending.

Historically, this area was an African American housing development that was sadly used as a dumping ground, causing pollution and flooding. The incredible efforts of members of St. Ambrose, other Episcopal churches, and environmentalists led to a major clean-up, the protection of the water source, and the building of this amazing education center.

Today, the Wetlands Park protects the Walnut Creek Watershed and serves the community, but the fight continues to stay vigilant against flooding and upstream pollution. It’s a testament to what collaboration can achieve!

Newcomers Class begins Sunday

The Rev. Justin Gabbard will host a series of Newcomers Classes after church on November 16, November 23, and December 7. These informal sessions will provide an introduction to the Episcopal Church, Anglican theology, and our particular pattern of worship and give newcomers an opportunity to become better acquainted with our clergy and some of our other new members.

This series will be followed by an adult confirmation class beginning in January. Confirmations and receptions will take place during the bishop’s visitation on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Help Feed the Hungry this November

Please consider supporting our efforts to feed the hungry .

  • bring canned/shelf-stable protein (such as tuna, chicken, or salmon) to church; these items will be donated to the Urban Ministries Food Pantry. Children and youth are warmly encouraged to participate in this corporal work of mercy.

  • make a monetary donation (for checks, please include "SNAP Support" in the memo line). Donations will be split evenly - half of the funds will be used to purchase $10 gift cards to A Place at the Table pay-what-you-can cafe, and the other half will be donated to Urban Ministries operating costs.

Donation baskets are available in the church and in the Parish Life Center for food items and for monetary offerings. Online giving is now available through Realm and on the parish website. Thank you!

Adult Formation Offerings on Sunday at 9 AM

  • Meeting from 9:00 to 10:00 in Room 323 of the Parish Life Center, the Adult Formation class will continue a focus on "Hospitality." On Sunday, Nov. 16, we will join the Outreach Committee in welcoming Joy Shillingsburg, Mission Strategy Coordinator for the Episcopal Diocese of NC and founder of the nonprofit organization Wake Forest Community Table, who will lead a session on Asset Based Community Development (ABCD). This is a powerful tool for all engaging with our community and participating in outreach here at Good Shepherd.

Joy will share how to use ABCD to focus on the gifts and skills that are present in our community and we will discuss ways to move outreach ministries from transactional to relational by collaborating with neighbors to build stronger and more vital ministries and communities. These two podcasts would be a great way to learn more about ABCD before or after the session: At the Table: Christian Community for the Common Good: Mike Mather and At the Table: Christian Community for the Common Good: DeAmon Harges

  • Bible Study led by Debbie Moyer.

Thank You for supporting the CROP Hunger Walk! 🌎

We had a great team of church members who participated in the CROP Hunger Walk this past Saturday, November 8.

Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of our community, we successfully raised over $1,000! This contribution will go directly toward helping families struggling with hunger, both right here in our community and in communities around the world.

Together, we are providing more meals for the growing number of people who need them and creating greater global food security.

Hot Cocoa Sale during the Raleigh Christmas Parade – November 22

The Hot Cocoa Sale is the primary fall fundraiser for the Episcopal Youth Community. On November 22 (the

Saturday before Thanksgiving), the city of Raleigh will host its annual Christmas Parade. Our youth will set up

tables outside the church on Hillsborough Street and sell Hot Cocoa and other goodies to parade attendees.

Last year the Hot Cocoa Sale raised over $1000 for our youth program which funded our winter and spring

programing and also helped defer the cost of our summer mission trip. Contact: Karen Boyne 919-623-2233

What Can You Do to Help with Hurricane Melissa Relief?

Episcopal Relief & Development is in close contact with partners, including local dioceses and agencies in Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti, as Hurricane Melissa continues to cause widespread devastation throughout the Caribbean region. "Please give today to the Hurricane Relief Fund and help our partners and dioceses reach vulnerable communities devastated by Hurricane Melissa. As we continue to assess ongoing needs in impacted areas, your urgent gift will enable us to respond now — and in the long run to aid in recovery." more info here: https://www.episcopalrelief.org/
