Adult Formation Offerings on Sunday at 9 AM

  • Meeting from 9:00 to 10:00 in Room 323 of the Parish Life Center, the Adult Formation class will continue a focus on "Hospitality." Using resources from The Henri Nouwen Society we will review part of the series "From Fear to Love: Spiritual Grounding in Anxious Times." Looking ahead to Sunday, Nov. 16, we will join the Outreach Committee in welcoming Joy Shillingsburg, Mission Strategy Coordinator for the Episcopal Diocese of NC and founder of the nonprofit organization Wake Forest Community Table, who will lead a session on Asset Based Community Development (ABCD). This is a powerful tool for all engaging with our community and participating in outreach here at Good Shepherd. Joy will share how to use ABCD to focus on the gifts and skills that are present in our community and we will discuss ways to move outreach ministries from transactional to relational by collaborating with neighbors to build stronger and more vital ministries and communities. These two podcasts would be a great way to learn more about ABCD before or after the session: At the Table: Christian Community for the Common Good: Mike Mather and At the Table: Christian Community for the Common Good: DeAmon Harges

  • Bible Study led by Debbie Moyer.

Newcomers Class and Reception

The Rev. Justin Gabbard will host a series of Newcomers Classes after church on November 16, November 23, and December 7. These informal sessions will provide an introduction to the Episcopal Church, Anglican theology, and our particular pattern of worship and give newcomers an opportunity to become better acquainted with our clergy and some of our other new members.

This series will be followed by an adult confirmation class beginning in January. Confirmations and receptions will take place during the bishop’s visitation on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Safe Church Training, Sunday November 9th

The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina requires many ministry positions and volunteers to complete Safe Church Training every three years. The training is designed to ensure that each church is providing a safe place for children and young people as well as adults who are vulnerable. Those required to attend are clergy, church staff, vestry members, anyone who works with children or youth, anyone who makes at-home visits or other visits on behalf of the church.

The Diocese of North Carolina is providing 3 training sessions in November. One of those is November 9 at 1 PM, and a group of us from Good Shepherd will experience this session together. Would you like to join us? Please do. A light lunch of sandwich and chips will be served. Please call the Parish Office (919.831.2000) to reserve your spot. Contact: Susan Lewellen

Special Music This Sunday!

This Sunday, November 9, our Chancel Choir is joined by the Chancel Choir from First Presbyterian Church Raleigh, and their director, Mark Woodcock (pictured above). In October, the combined choirs led music at First Presbyterian Church, and this Sunday, will be leading music here for the 10:15 Eucharist. Mark Woodcock will direct the choral anthems, while our Director of Music & Organist Kirsten Homdrom (Dr. H) will play. This has been a wonderful opportunity for both choirs and congregations for musical enrichment and an exchange of ideas and traditions. Please look forward to:
