Adult Formation
Join us in November: Hospitality and the Spiritual Life
This Sunday we kick off our November Formation series on Hospitality and the Spiritual Life. As our Little Free Pantry continues to feed our neighbors and we prepare to welcome overnight guests on White Flag nights, join Rev. Imogen and Lynn Hoke as they consider how prayer and solitude form us for rich encounters with God in the face of those to whom we minister, and who minister to us. Bring your experiences, insights, and questions as we spend a little time with Henri Nouwen (in particular his short and powerful book, Reaching Out) and put out our nets for a catch.
October with C.S. Lewis - Thanks and Resources
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to explore C.S. Lewis this October, from Mere Christianity through The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Linked below are the slides from the class, which include references to the relevant tests, as well as links to the YouTube resources we discussed. It was such a gift to explore Lewis' writing with you all! - Ian Finley

Newcomers Class and Reception
The Rev. Justin Gabbard will host a series of Newcomers Classes after church on November 16, November 23, and December 7. These informal sessions will provide an introduction to the Episcopal Church, Anglican theology, and our particular pattern of worship and give newcomers
an opportunity to become better acquainted with our clergy and some of our other new members.
This series will be followed by an adult confirmation class beginning in January. Confirmations and receptions will take place during the bishop’s visitation on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Contact: The Rev. Justin Gabbard

Safe Church Training, Sunday November 9th
The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina requires many ministry positions and volunteers to complete Safe Church Training every three years. The training is designed to ensure that each church is providing a safe place for children and young people as well as adults who are vulnerable. Those required to attend are clergy, church staff, vestry members, anyone who works with children or youth, anyone who makes at-home visits or other visits on behalf of the church.
The Diocese of North Carolina is providing 3 training sessions in November. One of those is November 9 at 1 PM, and a group of us from Good Shepherd will experience this session together. Would you like to join us? Please do. A light lunch of sandwich and chips will be served. Please call the Parish Office (919.831.2000) to reserve your spot. Contact: Susan Lewellen
| | The Good Shepherd Choir has been hard at work on their musical offerings for November and December, but that doesn't mean they haven't had time for fun! At rehearsal this week, they celebrated their hard work with a Halloween Party, coming in costume, playing musical games, and ending with pizza and doughnuts. Even Douglas the Penguin came in costume! The Good Shepherd Choir sings next on Sunday November 16 for the 10:15am Eucharist. |

2026 Goal: Not met, not yet!
Thank you to our 172 generous pledgers who made their 2026 financial commitments totaling $817,839. We are especially grateful for 13 first-time givers. Every gift matters and is deeply appreciated. Having your intended contribution amount allows the Vestry to adopt a more accurate budget, providing certainty for both programmatic and personnel needs.
The Vestry will approve the 2026 budget on December 1 based on $817,839. If life got in the way and you forget to submit your financial commitment, you can still help to increase our budgeted number by making your contribution today.
On behalf of our Good Shepherd community, please know how deeply appreciated your financial gifts are to living into our mission: The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd is, with God's help, a welcoming, inclusive, and growing community inspired by worship to actively serve others through the love, teaching, and example of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,
Esther Hall
