From the Rector

Dear People of St. Michael’s,

Every March when I used to work in an office these bracket charts would appear, and I would have to feign an interest in basketball.

However, there is a bracket-based tournament for grumpy church nerds like me. It's LENT MADNESS, put on every year by Forward Movement, the outfit that publishes resources like the Forward Day by Day devotional some of us use. A diverse crowd of holy women and men from Augustine to Zinzendorf face off, and every vote matters! Will your favorite saint make the Saintly 16? The Elate 8? Who will win the coveted Golden Halo?

Plus, you might learn about saints you never heard of before. So it’s almost edifying. Probably still doesn’t count as a Lenten discipline though.

If this sounds like your kind of fun, follow the tournament at LentMadness.org.

Sincerely yours,

Fr. Peter Schellhase

Bible Study Suppers—Wednesdays at 6 PM

This Lent we are gathering every week to enjoy fellowship over a meal and study the Letter to the Hebrews. Last night we got off to a great start with chapter 1, in which Jesus is revealed as greater than the angels, and, it is hinted, than the Law itself. Join us every Wednesday at 6 pm to participate. All materials are provided, and there is no homework.

Collect for the Second Sunday in Lent

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For the aged and infirm, for the widowed and orphans, and for the sick and the suffering, let us pray to the Lord. (BCP 384)
