One year ago, at the start of the 2020 season, Operation Motorsport was full of hope, excitement and grand plans.
With 9 beneficiaries, 8 partner teams, and a host of volunteers, board members and partners on site at Daytona, things were really looking up.
Then came Covid-19 and everything came to a grinding halt. We didn't let that stop us though as we pivoted our recovery programs into the virtual.
One year later, we find ourselves into our second full season of the eMotorsport iRacing League by RECARO, with a host of new beneficiaries, veterans and active service members joining our team and although we don't have the same numbers at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, we are here.
And through all of this there is a gem of a success story. In 2017 at our very first US race activation at VIR, an Airborne CW3 by the name of DeWayne Crawford (Crawdaddy), who was still serving at Fort Bragg but transitioning out of the military on a medical discharge, due to suffering from 2 Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), joined the Paul Miller Racing Team to begin his recovery journey through Motorsport Immersion.
This weekend, after a long journey, Crawdaddy starts the 2021 racing season as the Tire Technician for the #31 Whelen Action Express Racing DPi.
Congratulations Crawdaddy, you have lead the way so others may follow. Airborne!
