Gracious God, You are the healer of the brokenhearted, the restorer of what has been lost or damaged. Today, I bring before You all my hurts and the areas of my life that need Your healing touch. Whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, I trust in Your ability to heal and restore. Let Your comfort reach those who grieve, Your strength uplift those who are weak, and Your peace calm those who are troubled.

Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. ”Thank You for Your unfailing love and the assurance that You are always at work for the good of those who love You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Letter from the Principal

Parents and Guardians,

Happy Teacher Appreciation week. Our teachers here at Pius XI are wonderful mentors and leaders of your students who work incredibly hard for your students and care deeply about them (beyond simply the classroom). Teachers, as you know, work tirelessly to be instructors, mentors, at times counselors and listening ears in addition to the many tasks that are asked outside of teaching (i.e. enforce the dress code…more on this below).

Our Popes Parent Organization (PPO) has been outstanding this week with meals, coffee, nice decorations and notes. We could not be more proud of our teachers, and we could not feel more supported by our parents especially as May is hard for students, parents and staff. We eagerly await the summer, have end of year projects, conferences, exams, canceled and rescheduled spring sports, concerts and end of year celebrations. All of that said, let's take some time over these next two days and appreciate our teachers for all that they have done and will continue to do! Your words of sincere encouragement and appreciation will provide more fuel to their tanks than you can possibly imagine.

Now, I would like to take a moment to address our school’s dress code policy. This policy requires students to dress in a manner that is appropriate, modest and conducive to learning. Please review our dress code and have a conversation with your students and make sure that they are respecting the expectations. Specifically, we are seeing an increase in the number of students with ripped jeans, crop tops and students wearing shorts that are too short. (Mid-thigh and longer is the expectation for length for all of our students and no shirts should be tied up or expose a student’s midriff.)  Dress codes in every high school are difficult to enforce and they often come with a level of subjectivity. Furthermore, there are various opinions on whether a school benefits from a tight, loose or even any dress code. For me, personally, it is about staying true to the expectations that we have set for ourselves. I will quote Vince Lombardi, “How we do anything is how we do everything.” I am a firm believer that lines become blurred when people have to guess at what is “really” expected. With that in mind, behind the scenes at Pius XI, I am asking our staff to take a consistent stance with the dress code. Please, support us and help us on your end. The last thing any of these wonderful teachers (remember teacher appreciation) or any of my outstanding colleagues on the administrative team want to do is talk to a student about their clothes (but if we do, please know that we are just doing our jobs).

Please take a look at an updated view of our Junior\Senior exams for the week of May 20th!  If there are any questions let us know.

Wednesday, May 22nd will be a full school day and Friday, May 24th will now be an early release. This is to accommodate Senior Exams.

Padres y Guardianes,

Assessments

Greetings!

Throughout the semester, freshmen students have been meeting with their counselors for one mod each cycle. Over this period of time, students have been introduced to various topics and assessments in an effort to begin mapping their high school career and beyond. Using Naviance (a career and college planning program) students have completed the Career Interest Profiler based on the work of John Holland followed by the StrenghtsExplorer designed by Gallup. Counselors met with each student to review the curriculum guide and assist students with choosing courses for the next school year. Conversations surrounding time management and procrastination emerged after a mid-semester progress-report check-in. Most recently, the students have been examining the college-going process, which emphasizes the importance of being prepared to apply for schools in early senior year. Transcripts, letters of recommendation, school and community engagement, as well as service have been introduced and delineated. Individual students have started to look at particular schools and their requirements in an effort to be prepared for this process. This past week, our freshmen met with a senior panel who answered their questions concerning high school, college application process, and their college and career readiness.

Reminders…

AP Exams are underway through May 17th. The schedule and other testing information can be found HERE. Practice sessions are now available on both AP Classroom and YouTube.
