January 6 - January 15, 2023
|
|
This Sunday, the first Sunday after the Epiphany, we commemorate the Baptism of Our Lord, and we’ll have a Baptism at 11:00 and will renew our Baptismal Covenant at all three services.
As the church’s programs crank back up in a new calendar year, I’m grateful that we’re beginning with Baptism. Baptism calls us back to the essential, back to the root and source of our life together. We are in a period in our parish’s life that calls for much discerning assessment and creative innovation, as we continue to find ways to proclaim the good news as changed people to a changed world. And in this period, it is good to start from the essentials, from the promises of our baptism.
As part of this assessing, innovating, and remembering, we are preparing for the Annual Meeting at the end of January. To prepare us for the decisions we’ll make in assembly January 29, the vestry is presenting three sessions at the 9:30 formation hour over the next three weeks. This Sunday and next, we’ll be discussing the progress that has been made on the Strategic Plan adopted in late 2021, and what we have discovered through that progress. We are hoping that these two sessions will not just be a matter of sharing information, but that we can all together be engaged in the practice of watching for the Holy Spirit’s movement at Saint Paul’s, and listening for what God may be calling us (individually and collectively) to do and be. The third session, on January 22, will focus on the budget—another piece of data about who and where we are.
I hope that you’ll join us for all of these sessions, coming from the perspective of the promises we make in Baptism. This is how we are living out our Baptismal Covenant now, and we can only do it together.

Practicing Our Faith: A Way of Life for a Searching People (6 sessions)
Tuesdays, beginning January 10, 7:30 PM, Zoom
|
Our online formation book studies continue in January with Practicing our Faith: A Way of Life for a Searching People by Dorothy Bass. Books are available from Amazon and many book sellers and in the Narthex on Sunday and in the parish office during the week. ($20 donation). Sign up online using the link below.
“Practicing Our Faith offers help to Christians who are asking how our faith can help us discern what we might do and who we might become.
How can we live faithfully and with integrity in a world where the pace of existence is so fast and life's patterns are changing all around us? Can we conduct our daily lives in ways that help us not just get by but flourish--as individuals, as communities, and as a society in concert with creation and in communion with God?
These questions are on the hearts and minds of many seekers who are exploring spirituality today. They are also at the heart of Practicing Our Faith.”
