Children's Summer Worship!

We are continuing with our theme of leaning into the many wonders that comes from Nature, and celebrating God's many, miraculous creations!

For this week's Lesson, a Key Bible Verse to tie into the Lesson is:

"Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land."

                           (Song of Solomon 2:12:) 

NOTE: For the following two Sundays, August 2nd and 9th, there will be no Children's Worship or Nursery!

Nikki Canalichio

Nikki Canalichio earned her Masters degree in Bible Translation from the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics in 2013 and was certified by the Forum of Bible Agencies Int'l as a Bible Translation Consultant. Along with teaching and training translators, this role includes verifying the accuracy of Bible translations being done around the world, working with three organizations: Seed Company, Scriptura, and Word Collective. She specializes in Hebrew and the Old Testament, as well as the sub-fields of oral translation and biblical poetry, and she and her team are currently developing a new approach to poetry translation that includes the arts. She was a preacher at Mosaic Church in Arlington, TX for 8 years. For her, the beauty of God has been an absolute game-changer, and her passion is to help others experience his beauty, too. 

Vickie Wacek

Victoria Drew Wacek is a Vermont-based Lyric Soprano and vocal educator who has been performing throughout New England for over two decades. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Vermont and her Master of Music in Opera Performance from the Longy School of Music.

In addition to appearing in opera, recital, and concert performances, Vickie has dedicated much of her career to music education. She has maintained a private voice studio since 2002, helping singers of all experience levels discover healthy, confident, and expressive voices.

Vickie is grateful for the opportunity to share music with the congregation and hopes Sunday's selections bring moments of reflection, joy, and peace.

Join Salvation Farms for Blueberry Picking on Wednesday!

In support of our long-standing partnership, SCC

volunteers will be picking blueberries for Salvation

Farms to distribute. We will meet at the Church at 8:30AM or meet us at the farm by 9:00AM!

For the past 20 years, Salvation Farms has partnered with Vermont farmers to rescue fresh, nutritious food that might otherwise go to waste because of labor shortages, transportation challenges, or other barriers. This food is then distributed to organizations that serve people experiencing food insecurity, as well as children, seniors, and other vulnerable members of our communities.

Sabbatical Book Study Starts Wednesday!

A short book study based on the book by Walter Brueggemann "Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now"

I was reading this book on vacation, busy as ever, when I realized that Brueggemann was talking to me. In reviewing the history of God’s people and the call of God to resist the ever-present demands to work, he was inviting me to pause, not do one more thing, but to lean into the gift of what sabbath time (time away) is all about. It’s not only resistance to the demands of our society, but alternative to all the things that eat up our ‘rest time.”

When I grew up in Philadelphia, Sundays were a day of rest. Stores were closed. We took walks in the woods. No one had to be up at 4 am for sports practice. And, think back to the times of power outages, when we were forced to stop. To gather around candlelight and visit with each other.

Bruggemann offers us a biblical perspective of God’s call to Gods’ people to rest, to honor the Sabbath, to revisit the memory of being freed from slavery and making the time to be in God’s presence. In our day, it’s an invitation to be freed from the slavery of thinking we have not done enough, that we have too much to do.

Join us for our first session on Wednesday July 29 7-8 pm. We will look at the first two chapters of the book and share some reflections on how it applies to our lives.

Volunteer Opportunity with the Missions and Service Committee!

The SCC Missions and Service Committee is looking for a volunteer who has an interest in learning more about the housing challenges facing our community. We are seeking someone to represent Stowe Community Church by participating in the Lamoille Housing group that Rabbi David helped launch a few months ago.

This is a wonderful opportunity to serve both our church and the wider community while staying informed about local efforts to address housing needs. Most meetings are held via Zoom and take place during the daytime.
